Just bought a set of wheels, 18x9.5 and 17x8. I have 295/45/18 for the rear, but still have to buy fronts. I'm thinking 245/45/17, as I have seen others with 2nd generation chargers running the same size...but I would take any suggestions. Of course, i'd like to go as wide as I can on the 8" wheel without causing interference. BS on the fronts is 4.5"

I used to have 8" wheels all around and I know a 255 went on there really nice. I'd rather not go 40 series if I don't have to. Since the fronts will be narrower and the rim is 1" less in diameter, the sidewall difference will already be there even if I keep the profiles the same as the rear.

235/55-17 works pretty well on a B body car. You want to stay fairly tall with the tire to fill out the wheel well. You can go shorter if the car is slammed but at a normal ride height you'll want a 27 inch tire in there or else it will look lost.

It's not slammed, but it is lowered more than stock.1.5-2"
hmmmmmmmm I was hoping to run at least a 245 width..

I have 17x8 and rin 255/50/17 all around. Posting from my Blackberry so I can't add a pic but search my username to find a few.

255/50 is a nice muscle car tire if you can get it to fit. That is a really burly looking tire on the front but it will probably rub somewhere unless the backspacing is perfect.

I was running 245/50/16. If I go with 255/45/17, according to a tire calculator I used, this will result in barely 1/2" height and width increase. since i had no rubbing before, It should work.

As long as I show a bit more sidewall in the rear, which I should, I think it will look good.

That is the best way to do it. If you have a known tire size that works then just use it to work from for the new tire size. Same with the backspacing on the rim.

your are right andy, I tend to complicate it. I ran 8" wide wheels with this same 4.5" backspace and they fit perfect. Rims are so critical to the look of the car that I need to hear it from someone else... thanks

Here it is with 16's

with the new wheels/tirs, I will not quite 1" taller in the rear and not quite 1/2" taller in the front. Never had any real rubbing issues with these so I should be good to go.

If you increase your front backspace to 5.0" you could even fit a 1/2" wider tire yet. Or a slightly 1/2" taller tire.

17" and 16" rims can run 5.0" backspace.

one piece wheels, only come in one backspace for that size... so I can't increase it. At least I can get away with a 245 for sure

Car looks great with the 16 inch rims. If you have some high resolution pictures that you're willing to send me I could use them in the next book. I'd like pictures of the 17 inch rims also when you get them on there. Shoot me a PM if interested.

I have a 70 Charger with 18X9 front wheels with 275 40 18 tires. The car is lowered, but with 1" T-bars and KYB shocks, it rarely rubs anything except the inner frame rail.

That's a pretty tall tire for being that wide. But Charger's have a lot of tire room.

What backspace are your 18x9's.

Any pictures of your car. Love wide front tires.

The wheels are from INTRO and are called Twisted Vista. B/S is 4 and 5/8. It actually isnt that tall. For a look, check out the red Charger on the Capital City Mopars website.

wow that's a big tire to put in there...
just for some perspective:

25.6" 245/50/16
26.7" 275/40/18
26" 255/45/17

so you are not quite 1" taller than what I was running. With that backspace i'm assuming that the wheel sits "out" more.

when you said it rarely rubs the frame rail, is that just when you are turning the wheel to full lock or is this while at speed hitting a bump?
