A guy i know has a 73 440 six pack short block that he claims he had it 20+ years and got it from a guy who got it new from dodge. The casting number is 369830-440-5 cast date is 8-6-73. I has the six pack rods and steel crank in it its never had heads bolted on it or never been painted other than the orange oil pan bolted on it. Can anyone verify if this is a correct?

Most likely a standard 440 short block. No six pack motors were made after early 72 MY.

Correct no six pack motors, but some 440's were made with H.D. rods aka six pack rods.

If you were lucky the 73 engines could have had the forged crank and big rods...The balancer should be the standard forged piece...It seems after the compression dropped and the piston weights came down the factory did'nt use the 70 style counterweighted balancer...

my 1974 winnebago 440 was cast in '73 and has steel crank and the heavy(six-pack) rods...bet that's what you have.

All HP and Truck 440's from '70 - '75 used the miss-named "six pack" rods.
