Our 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan has the digital readout heat/A/C on it. The heat used to work fine but recently the air will only blow in your face, you can't change it to defrost or down to your feet. Is it the dial/switch or some type of servo that controls where the air is blowing?
Is this a common problem or is it just my bad luck again?
Thanks in advance, Dave.

Dave,
this is gonna be tough to diagnose without actually looking at it but here goes.
heater door control actuators are just a simple linear control motor, easily ck'd with a simple 9 volt battery and 2 wires.
Diagnosing the control head and/or the BCM controlled inputs/outputs is another thing and I'm not a good enough typer to describe it to make sense.
I'll see if I can get you something better to go by and report back if I can

Thanks Bill, I'll take anything I can get. The control head is nearly $500, and that may not be the problem. Does the dash need to be disassembled to access the heater door actuators?

No, but being something of a contortionist will help.

Is it ATC, and/or dual or single zone controls

BTW, there is a guy on the bay that sells reman control heads. I bought one for my LHS for less than a $75 comes with a no questions asked 12 month warrenty

I removed the glove box, but only the blower motor and the cabin air filter were in that area. I then took out the little "cubby hole" at the bottom of the center console just below the drink holder. 6 philips head screws remove the cubby hole. Behind it was a little cast aluminum thing with a few wiring connectors going to it. A few taps with the plastic handle of my screwdriver on it near the bolt head made the heater doors start working properly. I think it's fixed.
Attached is what it looks like from the front.

There must be a relay in there if the taps worked?

DO NOT tap on anything with a yellow connector, thats airbag system connectors.

if you fixed the issue by tapping on something in the area mentioned, look for a loose wire and/or ground. I believe there is a ground bundle on the drivers side of the tunnel beneath the dash, left side just to the right of the accel pedal, pull the carpet back to access it
