I sure hope somebody here can help with this. Can anybody advise the wiring for the headlight switch? I need to know what each wire does. This is for a 1971 Duster wiring harness. I have a wiring diagram for a 1971 Valiant, but after staring at it for an hour or so, I am now confused. It would be extremely helpful if I knew each color, and what each wire does.

TIA!!!

I appreciate the quick response, Ron M, but I already have the wiring diagram, which I obtained from this website. What I really need is somebody to advise what each wire on the headlight switch plug does.

That's not a simple circuit. You have outputs to the dash lights, dome light, head lights, running lights. These are also intermixed with the turn signal switch. A better question might be, what is your problem or what are you trying to accomplish?

Thanks for replying, Jim. I am trying to wire in a Painless fuse block into the stock wiring harness. The stock fuse block was a bit suspect, and I thought the added protection for some previously unprotected circuits couldn't hurt, either. I really need to know what powers the switch. From what I can tell, it is a black/w white tracer, and a pink wire. There is also a tan wire that I am curious about.

ok
black with tracer- + 12 volts in for headlights
pink- + 12 volts from fuse block for dash lights
yellow- ground for the dome light- note- headlight switch's metal body must be grounded to work.
tan- out to dash dimmer to fuse to orange wire to dash lights.
black- out to parking lights

You can also d/l the installations .pdf from Painless. The mopar kit colours are the same and it describes where they go.
