What is the difference between a non-EEC center carb for a '70 E with 440-6 auto vs. a '70 E with 440-6 manual? Can they interchange?... Thanks...

Im pretty sure the only differences are the part numbers and maybe how they are jetted? other wise, they will interchange

I was also thinking that they would interchange and I am with you on thinking the diffs may be jet related, who is our resident 6-pk expert? as this one is stumping me..

The "manual" carb will also be rated at 355 CFM vs the 350 CFM of the auto, and the accelerator pump will have a different cam button

Mike,where/how did they come up with the different rating? Main body, throttle bore, throttle plates and shafts, distribution nozzles, and all choke parts are the same.Often wondered.

Many years ago when detailed Holley list number/part number break down information was more readily available, it was a time when in most large cities, there were large businesses existing solely to sell/repair/distribute automotive carburetors and their parts, I studied the differences in OEM Holley list numbers extensively. Found that for the most part, all else being equal, there was no physical difference (same Holley part numbers for all components) between and auto and manual transmission list numbers. Jet size differences are listed in the FSM.
It was commonly accepted by those of us then who serviced these cars when new that some of these different list numbers for Holley OEM carburetors made up from physically the same components meant changes with initial set-up adjustments only. These carbs were shipped new with idle mixture screw limiting caps (in the case of the outboards, lead plugs), having been pre-set when assembled for a particular application, in theory when bolted to new motors, would require little more than a curb idle adjustment. Different mixture requirements for manual vs. auto required different list numbers. Replacement carbs in later years for both applications were usually superseded to just one list number, as it is today with the reissues.

Then the 440-AT center carb is jetted with a #64 (which is in the MT)?

Now I know the diffs between the 340 carbs and the 440 carbs but I also remember a CFM diff between the 440 MT and AT non-EEC centers but... its been such a long time and I do not remember the details. However, it looks like I may be mixing up information in my head

The 1970 FSM shows both the C.A.S. (49 state) and the E.C.S.(California) versions of the 440 center carbs running #64s for manual trans and #63 on the automatics.
