Just changed one in a 2000 V6 Caravan 3.3 V6. Pull the left axle and you can snake the pump out. My pump rusted out.

I took the pulley off while it was still on the engine then took the pump off the engine. Dropped the exhaust system from the flange and removed it. Snaked it out the back underneath. This was on a 3.3L engine. Not sure it is any easier than taking off the axle.

The pump is a snap to rebuild, $10 for the kit. One snap ring holds the rear cover of the pump onto the case. Too a minute for me to figure out how to get the pin out.

Picture this: look at a pop can in front of you as the pump off you car, the bottom of the can is where the pulley is. The snap ring is in a grove inside the top lip of the can where backwash sits (yum). You will use a tiny punch and from the side of the can under the lip look for a small hole, insert here and give it a rep and the snap ring pops out. There is like a half dozen parts inside.

No kidding, does the kit come with a new shaft bushing or bearing for the front? i'm sure that's why the seal is bad.
