I just installed my Lokar unit in my 68 Barracuda with a PG. It's pricey but a very nice peace. There's so little room between the trans and floorboard I don't see how a rigid tube could fit. It also comes with a locking plug wwhich could be used by itself in the car or when trans is out. I bought the 36" unit so that when I move my engine back it will still work. It's long!!

Thats looks to me more like a favorites list.Really do you think a tech inspector is going to carry around a list of manufacters in their pocket and pull every dip stick and check it to the list? He may look to see if it is a locking dipstick. How about all the Honda's and toyota's? If its a rule for safety then they need to have a SFI number and date.(of course then it will triple in cost until you can find them on ebay from other countries)Until then my free locking dip stick from the junk yard is as good as any of the above. If you say it isn't approved then prove it.Non of the above have been tested and been approved SFI. Like people have said before. I have never had fluid come up the dipstick.Out the front vent and yes and I fixed that. Most everyone that is worried about this race's on a liminted base in a car that the center of gravity is so low that it would take a fork lift to fip it over and reach a blazing 120 mph if that in a quarter mile.
I'm all for safety, but locking dipstick? How about a diaper for the tailshaft? I have seen way more fluid on the track from that. How about a tube and catch can for the vent?I have already done that.Maybe I should shut up NHRA will see this and come up with more rules.

I got the GM Performance Parts version.

Pulled it out of a 90's something van at the local pick-a-part for about $9. Fits the tube perfectly, just need to cut it to length and mark the levels.

I have a Lokar dipstick that is mounted on the firewall. Last week when I went through a preseason tech inspection at Tulsa Raceway Park (now NHRA) they told me it was okay to make a simple bracket that would hold the top in the tube.

OK Guys ... a couple of Q's ...

WHY did NHRA do-this(what is their justification?) ... past getting $$$$ from the people on the "approved list" ?

WOULD a bungy-corded regular dip-stick be OK ?

Has ANYONE ever heard of a regular dip-stick BLOWING OUT ? .... and if this happens ...what would keep ATF(in this same situation) and with these locking dip-sticks in play ...what would keep the ATF from blowing OUT the vent ?

Yep...looks just like a GM locking dipstick...I stick to my saying go grab one out of a later model GM in a junkyard for $5 and cut it down.....If they give you any issues at the track....tell them you work for GM and there is a possible patten infringement issue on all these GM copies. Tell him you would be happy to investigate it further..

Or just tell them it is one of those brands. There is no label, etc. And the locking part is the same, and GM is on the accepted list too!
