It's time to get working on the Barracuda again, it'll probably see mostly street use with some trips to the track now and then. 4.15 crank 440, .040 over, around 498 inches. 11:1, hydraulic cam, prepped Edelbrocks, Holley 950 HP, I'm guessing it'll be in the 550-570 horsepower range.

I'm looking for a pump that will handle the fuel needs of the motor, be dependable, and be quiet as possible. Any suggestions?

For a good, reliable and quiet electric pump, you can't go wrong with the Mallory 140. More than enough to handle 600 horses and then some.

My Dad runs the 160 Gal Edelbrock pump with an external regulator. He has a 496 that's probably 600ish Horsepower. If it's lacking fuel, we haven't seen it yet.

Another Mallory Comp 140 user here. However, I'd be hesitant to say that any performance-type electric pump qualifies as "quiet".

Aeromotive A1000 works good on my 600 hp 6-pack Roadrunner that sees street and strip. It is one of the few that can be used full time as it is cooled by the fuel. Used it 4 years so far with no problems.

Have any of you guys had any experience or knowledge with this particular mechanical pump. Saw this somewhere a while back and kept the link, just interested for simplicity sake since it was alky compatible and mounted in stock position. Just curious.

I really got to dislike the Mallory 140 pump, I have been using it on a daily driver..Its on my 01 Dodge Truck that see's hundreds of miles a week..
The pump eats brush's like no other....
I actually keep brush kits in the truck at all times.
I know a race car wont see as much driving, but just proves the pump wont last for the long haul.
I have also polished the commutator ans slip ring to keep it from being so bad..
I now can get 5-6 months before replacing.

The Clay Smith pump is very good. I used one many years ago with a 12:1 440 with two 660 center squirter on a tunnel ram. Also Race Pumps make a piston pump that works very well.

I've ran the Mallory 140 for several years...I just switched to the Aeromotive "hot rod" pump (140)...the aeromotive is certainly noiser in a dead head setup. I will be installing a return line soon and we'll see if that quiets it down or not.

don't be afraid to try a mechanical pump. i got so sick of electric pumps, i put a carter race mechanical in and never looked back. that was close to ten years ago, and still going strong. my car runs tens, and fuel pressure is rock solid through the entire run. i never could say that about any electric pump i ever ran.

for what is the good life if not doing things thoughtfully?

After looking at posts on several sites, I'm really leaning toward a Clay Smith mechanical. Since it's a street-strip car, I'm not worried about losing a few HP to drive the pump. Sounds like the perfect setup for my HP and intended use...

don't hold me to this (never used them) but i believe people have had some issues with the clay smith pump. a mechanical would be nice for a street car. i wonder what Dwayne was using on his satellite. afaik he was running a stock fuel system on that and it ran pretty good. just wondering what a HV carter would do with bigger plumbing on both sides of it. losing a few HP is one thing leaning out the engine is another.

do a little searching on mechanical fuel pump threads. Dwayne ran the carter mechanical, as did some of the guys in FAST classes. labrat runs/ran a holley mechanical in the low 11's.

I have a basic carter street mechanical pump for 10 years and 500"/570hp. Works fine for my 11 sec runs.
