Can you guys please post some pics, specs and performance/mileage of your street rod motors. Also, is there anyone making any aftermarket street rod style parts for the LA motors? seems like a decent market to do since there are becoming more popular. LAWFISH

stock Dakota 318. Picture is from 97 when I put the body on the chassis. Still haven't got much more done. It's not pretty, but I hope that it moves the car and gets good MPG. The 40 should be lighter, and with 3.91 and OD should be able to get off the line and cruise down the road. When I checked into speed equipment, a few told me that you had to take it easy if you keep the stock computer. free up the exhaust some, maybe a bit bigger on the cam, and a bigger throttle body, and you are close to the edge. Of course, that was years ago, and there have been many changes since. I figure stock it will be enough for at least 95% of my driving. http://www.nicksgarage.com/jh/2006-12-11/40engine.JPG

Wow...where's all the rest of the rod engines?? Here's one I got to cracking on last weekend. Very cheap build. It's a 1984 318 from a diplomat. We left the bottom end stock and inspected everything real good. Bearings looked great and the cylinders barely had any wear at all. Got a polished weiand intake for $75 from a member here and a $50 mopar '68 340 4speed cam (450/455 lift), Then I put on a set of shaved 360 heads, will also feature a set of headers I got for free! Check out the vintage weiand valve covers I traded for. Other tidbits are a 600 holley and a double roller timing chain Check out the air cleaner! Hubcap style

It won't fit a Poly, as the Poly's are I-E-I-E-I-E-I-E and the Wedges are E-I-I-E-E-I-I-E. There was a bolt hole issue with the early 273's (different angle of the bolt holes or something like that) but there is a good chance that with little to no modification it would work on a 318 head as well. That said, if you really want to use it, I would consider something along the lines of hotroddave40's 318 build...but you can choose how "economical" you want to make it as far as cam/carbs are concerned. A couple 450cfm vacuum secondary 4-bbls would be a max effort, but a 302 headed 318 is capable of some decent snort without breaking the bank.
Just a thought...
