Replacing the windshield on the 69 GTX. Have the Soft Seal windshield gasket for it. Now evidently I need a tear shaped lockstrip to lock the glass in. Any body know who carries this? Also what do I need underneath the gasket - 5/16 inch tape (and who carries that) or a tube sealant? I am not going to change in the glass (although the old one is now out), just to have everything ready for the installer. Thanks in advance.

i'm not sure you have the right windshield gasket. when i replaced the one in my 69 road runner it didn't have a separate locking strip. but sealer would be needed.

Are you sure you need a "filler" type of lock strip or does your WS gasket have a "self" lock strip... Seems like it was A bodies that had the filler strip lock.....

Don't mean to high-jack the post but about the 67 locking strip what exactly is it?

Thanks all for your responses. On another forum a guy from Australia has a 69 Charger and directed me to look at the seal closer. Yes there is a rubber flap that bends over into the channel and locks the glass, so it is self sealing. I got confused as the old gasket (either original or replacement some time back has the tear shaped lock strip. I called Soft Seal this morning and their tech center guy was clueless. So again thanks for the confirmation. By the way, anyone install this windshield by putting the seal on the pinch weld first and then putting in the glass? This what Australia says. No jokes about being upside down.

i tried it that way but couldn't get it to work. what i did find helpful was using the tool they give you for laminate flooring. it's that z shaped bar. after you get the assembly over the bottom pinchweld it allows you to pull down on the top of the assembly. sometimes the windshield looks like it's in until you go to put the mouldings on. the top needs to draw down and in.
