Local office suply store is having a promotion. Buy $100.00 worth of office supplies & get a free video camera. I need the office stuff since I run a small business. However the video camera is a 1.5 megapixel,4X digital zoom, 32 MB built in memory. Want to use it to video my & friends cars launching & also roll bar mount to video a down track pass & upload on youtube. If this a decent camera for that or should I pass?

I would think not.
ya get what you pay for, you want good optics to zoom in on rear tires.
I use my digital Nikon d70 slr set on burst to capture excellent images of car launch.

I bought a high buck camera with a mini disc... that
didnt work at all, the noise level and the shock to
it were too much... at the end of the run all it
would show was "disc error".... I ended up getting
a tape style camera and it can take the beating for
in car use.... I also have a mini camera that can
be used on the helmet but havent used it yet, it
uses a SD card... I made up a mount so it can be
used on the funny car cage but either of them will
have to see through the back of my scoop and through
the front( I have a lexan back wall in my scoop)

some kind of video stabilazion would be needed IMO

if for taking videos of the car @ starting line a mono or tri pod is a great asset. and asking the person to hold as still as possible. I've ask a friend to take videos of my launch waste of time. video all over the place didn't frame the car ect. good camera + good operator= good results.

Scott uses one of these on the Lake Erie Monster and it shoots a great vid.

It even came off the wing at around the 1/8 mile mark and still worked when they found it

I have that camera. Staples had that deal. The camera is not that bad but has no zooming or autofocusing while filming. So for racing you set the zoom by pressing the in and out button, it finds its focus and press record. Here is one of my early video projects before I got a real video camera so you can judge the quality for yourself. The photos are from my other still camera and the video portions from this link are from that staples free camera. Enjoy.

Hum....I must be a knucklehead cause I cant get the video to play

Good question! I’m struggling with exactly the same issue.
Looking forward to hearing the recommendation!

I bought a go pro this year .I've used it some haven't tried all the different settings yet .
I've had it mounted on rear valance and qtr panel 131.00 mph stayed on.
Also mounted in car with rollbar mount and suction cup .
Getting ready to do some 4 wheelin soon.
I like the camera for sound and ease .
I download music to some of mine .

X2 on the GoPro. They take amazing video and you can take them anywhere. They are waterproof to 90 feet I believe. I bought the motorsports edition and it came with a ton of different styles of mounts. Well worth the $299
