On the 05 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7 hemi, Iplan to put this automatic transmission motor in my 71 cuda with a manuel. Hopefully a TKO 5 Speed if I can swallow the price. For the Mockup in the 71 cuda I went to bolt an 833 OD Ebody sized transmission and Bellhousing. What I found was that the crank is not drilled for the input shaft to fit. How do I drill this? Remove Crank? Or is it a non crucual task that just needs clearance? Any body got pics of the pilot bearing installed? Thanks for any help?

use the automatic. cranks are hard, difficult to drill freehand. maybe have a machinist make a drilling fixture to bolt to the crank?

on my 6.1 there was a bearing in end of crank. not sure if 5.7 is same. read the archived post by 808cuda. it has pics of bearing.

You trim the tip of the input shaft. Lots of guys do this. My 440's crank is not drilled at all either and I'm thinking of running the 4-sp I have sitting around. The longer input shaft tip is not necessary if you use a 90's dodge v8 style pilot bearing that sits in the torq converter register on the crankshaft flange. Back in the 60's and 70's ma mopar used a bushing in the drilled hole, but later went to a bearing and put it on the edge of the crank. I know that swap works for the older mopar V8's, I assume the 5.7 hemis are the same..?
