The new blocks need the lifter bores honed at bare minimum. The .875 lifter bore in the block will not accept a .875 lifter, until you hone it.
There are no problems with the used nascar parts. The only reason they cycle them out is because they are racing for millions of dollars and have millions of dollars to throw away. Most nascar stuff has hardly any wear after one race.
Pistons are not a problem. There are a ton of new pistons out there for under $300. The do not come with rings. The rings will run around $1200-1500. Rebco can open the ring lands up for around $175, so you can run a more reasonable ring pack. Or you can have custom pistons made for around 800-1000. I have job numbers if you would like them. You can just change the ring land openings when you order new ones.
Have the heads been ported? If not your gonna have a ton of money tied up in them by the time you are done.
There are lots of small things you will need to buy. I put an engine together myself getting parts as I went.. There are a ton of small things that you would never think of. So I would stick with reputable guys. You will have about 2k just tied into a motor plate and all the accessories( Alt, oil pump, water pump, balancer, pulleys, belts) buy all this together cause mixing and matching these parts will not work. Butch Hatton is an excellent guy to buy this stuff from.
Make sure you get a chevy style crank for the 1 piece block. The ford crank will not work in this block.
Scott Eatmon, Kent Ritter, and Butch Hatton are excellent guys to buy parts from.
Stay far far far far far away from Liuzzo Bros racing. No matter what anyone says DO NOT buy from them.
