Recieved my '71 gull wing for the Demon yesterday from Dale's Cuda shop. Was wondering how this thing goes together and where the holes are drilled. My trunk does have the cutouts underneath, just looking how to drill/install.

The way I tried it had ~1" between the bracket and the bottom of the trunk lid. Doesn't seem like it should have a space there but

Well, the first question has to be, are you positioning it properly?

I was talking about the bottom of the trunk lid. The metal braket bolts to the cutouts on the bottom off the hood but it's ~1" from the top trunk skin. That means that there will be ~1" gap between the top trunk skin and the bracket on the bottom, it that correct?

Yes, there is space between the exterior sheetmetal and the brackets.

The brackets and studs support the wing up so the sheetmetal skin does not depress and pull in. You adjust the wing bracket height as to not pull down on the sheet metal and bend it in. Not sure if that makes sense.

These guys are steering you in the right direction...Do you have that special double threaded adjuster nut ???? You thread that nut through the bracket and try to take up as much space between the bracket and deck lid as you can...It will act as a guide for the drillbit...

Thanks all. I'll have to look and see if I have the double threaded nut. I hope so, I bought the wing "kit".

I'll check it out tomorrow and get back with you.

Wow, the sheet shows a 21/32" hole. That's pretty big for a 1/4" stud.

Is this correct??

The factory engineering drawing posted above appears to have 4 holes at .281" (9/32") diameter.

The sheet-metal nut item "D" in the engineering drawing is 3/4" (.750") diameter. (21/32" (.656") diameter doesn't sound/look correct)

I posted the factory print(on another post), the one Steve has, I don't know were that came from,...but the required holes are .281 or 9/32",....I wouldn't exceed 5/16" (.312) diameter

Wow. I never noticed that before on the hole size. That sheet came with some NOS brackets and hardware for the A-body. It was folded up in the box.

Thanks. I couldn't read the numbers on the sheet you posted, it was too small and I couldn't figure out how to enlarge.

Well, unfortunately I went 7/16" on the holes. Once the wing is in place the holes are covered and the provided nuts are centered well enough to cover the holes from underneath.

I don't see any reason to weld them up or get another trunk lid. This is just going to be a fun car anyway.

Lesson learned I guess.

They look pretty big, but are hidden when the wing is installed.
