why not? seen plenty of automatics come from the factory with a magnet in the pan. i don't see any downside to putting a nice strong magnet in the pan out of the way. could do it with aluminum as well with epoxy.

I've always used a magnetic drain plug,it has been a great early warning system. I'm not sure adding more magnets would do more than hide problems,but love to hear from others on it.I cut open my oil filters on the hot rod,but not on the daily driver.

Also if don't already, cut the oil filter apart and inspect the paper element. Jegs sells a nice tool for doing the cutting. I now cut and inspect every filter I replace. {thanks to Cab}

I've got small magnets glued at the bottoms of my heads. But I like the idea of having one in the oil pan and the next time its off I will put one in there.

Why put the magnet INSIDE the pan? I have a magnet stuck to the outside of my pan, right next to the oil drain plug and when its time to change the oil, I remove the magnet..

and no.. it hasnt fallen off!!

Here a little trick i learned from tearing computers apart each harddrive in a computer has 1 or 2 really really powerfull magents in them. So if you have a old computer harddrive laying aroundor before you throw a old drive away tear it apart and pull the small magents out of it. I usually put one eithre on my oil pan or oil pan plug and another on the oil filter of my car they are very strong and do not move. There strong enough to magnetize the whole oil drain plug when put on the botton of it.
