I've been having a problem with my 1982 cordoba. It idles like garbage and when I drive it, it stalls whenever I come to a stop, or slow down. I thought it was a vaccum problem, but I replaced the dry rotted hoses, and it still runs bad. I adjusted the idle up a little, so it doesn't stall now, but I don't want to keep it like this. It has a 318 2bbl, and ran perfect, then one day it started running bad. I was thinking it may be a fuel filter, but if it runs decent with the idle adjusted up, I don't think that could be it. ANy help would be great, thanks!

Done a tune up and carb rebuild yet?

OK, I'm going out on a limb here and am thinking you got this car, tossed some gas into it, a battery, and expected it to be reliable transportation.

Am I right? (the dried vacuum hoses was a BIG clue).

Start with the basics. Clean/rebuild the carb, clean/replace the gas tank, REPLACE all the fuel lines, vacuum lines (hard and soft), add a fresh tune-up kit and dial it in.

Now, stick a vacuum gauge on the engine and see what you have. You'll need to do this anyway for a proper tuning.

If you in fact don't have bad valves, worn timing chain, and everything else is working as it should be, I'd take that BBD and deposit it on the bottom of the ocean where it belongs, and swap on a Performer intake and carb, and be done with it.

The cars got new plugs, wires, cap/rotor. It was an old ladys car, she took it to the shop regularly. I've been driving it for over a month, and it's been a good reliable car. i'm living at college taking summer classes, so I don't have access to many tools until I go home, maybe in a week or two. As far as I know, she drove it until me and my dad got it. She put a brand new exhaust from the manifolds back on it before we got it too.

I'm almost 100% sure its a small problem, I still think its a vaccuum leak that I can't find, thats what it seems like to me.

I want to put a 440 in the thing and call it a day, but I don't know if I can talk my dad into that yet, too many other projects

Just another thought- have you checked your grounds? The ECU loves a clean ground, so much so that I now always run a wire to the battery for them!
