As mentioned all the Mopar supplied cars were hardtops, the independents or shop done cars a lot of them were sedans for more structeral ridgity after they were converted. As an example Sox and Martins Paper Tiger 1 is a hdtp , where as the Paper Tiger 2 is a shop done sedan

If we are talking about Joe Ralph Thompson's AWB Plymouth, then yes it was a 1964 MW lightweight Savoy. The original owner was stationed at Ft. Benning in Georgia and drove it around the base from the information I have from Joe. I have the complete history of the car and all the owners of the car. Being a less known racer, it seemed to have survived getting too butchered over the years. http://www.1962to1965mopar.ornocar.com/mmo52002.html

It was a bracket racer around Little Rock in the mid-1980s. I bought it off a friend in 1996 and sent it down to Garlit's to keep the dust off it. Joe Ralph Thompson had three cars that he raced - two red Plymouths and Joe drove a white Dodge. I believe they were all 1964s (I'd have to check his letter). His other red Plymouth ran in B/G and won class at the US Nationals in 1968. Ron Cheshire drove that car. Ron ran SS/DA in a Camaro up until his wife got sick about 10 years ago. He ran a Hemi car before that, but switched after he used up the old Hemi's.

Another shot when I picked it up. Notice the original "bubble" windshield. I understand there were two different versions made. One of the guys that drove that car said it was an evil handling SOB. I imagine it has a ton of bump steer with the straight axle and stock sterring box. I sent it to Don in lieu of tearing it up. Hemi Fred says I should race it, but I'd hate to put it up on the guard rail or something worse.

The car was featured in Chrysler Power back in the early 1990s. They got a lot of the information wrong in the article. Here's a nice shot of the 1964 racing a Comet. I believe this is Carlisle, AR, right off I-30. I think it has reverted back to an airport.

Bill Flynn's Yankee Peddler was the only factory sedan AWB car built. Built at Dick Branster's instead of Amblewagon.
Yes I should have been more clear about that earlier, and the magazine's including everyone that reads them say that it was the only factory backed 65 AWB sedan built, even though there were several 65 Hemi AWB sedan's built by privateer's. But it would be interesting if another one pops up out of the blue in the future and claims it had factory support as well?

S&M as a team was factory-supported. The original cars were part of the factory deal. Factory racers received parts, engines, and in the case of the Melrose Missile, a body. (The Missile was converted in CA from a 2% HT - 1 of 4 such '65s). Factory racers would have a contract that would spell out whether they were supplied street cars, as apparently S&M was, and apparently there were differences even among the factory racers, an example of which is their tow rigs. Privateer teams might receive some support from a dealership, or maybe some "back-door" parts, but were not on the same level of support as the guys with the original 10 AWB cars. As far as claims of support or construction for any "newly discovered" cars, the original cars are known & accounted for, so any other claims would need to be supported by some VERY convincing paperwork, which I would bet doesn't exist.

The Sox and Martin sedan was not a street car.It was an A-990 Super Stock car converted as was mentioned
Most of the cars converted used the kit that was available from Chrysler.Complete with full size blueprints for the conversion.
There are no other "factory cars" out there. All are well documented. Many others as you know were converted SS cars.(eg: Firebrewed,Kentucky Colonel,El Toro etc.)
The Melrose 65 car was not the 64 2% car

The 2% cars were 64 cars. I read your post carefully.yes some cars were modified street cars.
