Looking for some 440 help....

We have a ’68 440 Magnum and where the head meets the intake, in the center, between the runners, for the lack of a better description, is a U shaped “pocket”. This pocket fills with oil after the engine runs for a short period of time eventually splashing everywhere resulting in pooling oil on the intake. I have changed the valley pan under the manifold, the end rails and sealed it all with the supplied Mopar RTV. No leak from that area but the oil is still finding its way into that “pocket”. Is this a common occurrence with 440’s? Any ideas on what is causing this and how to prevent it? Could it be a head gasket or worse…? I do not see any coolant just oil. I’m looking for some opinions as I am a Ford guy and have gotten into Mopars in the last few years. We are trying to determine if this is an easy fix or if we should tear the whole deal down for a much needed freshening sooner than we had planned. Thanks for any suggestions or advice….

Are you sure it's not leaking down from the valve cover gasket?

that U shaped hole goes to nowhere , its just to help the heat from that exh crossover passage to escape faster . if you are sure its not coming from the valve cover gasket its possible that there is a thin/porous area in the casting and its leaking in from the rocker area . i'sd pull the valve cover and look at the gasket rail , if its dry i'd look at that area under the valve cover .

The oil is definitely not coming from the intake bolts. We took the valve cover off and the gasket was pretty wet and warn. Looking to put a new vc gasket on Thursday and see were we are at.

Thanks for the input

Use the good MP ribbed reusable valve cover gasket.

Clean it, if it's Dirty. Oil it, if it Squeaks. But: Don't fix it, if it Works!

upon further inspection it seems like there's oil coming out of the bottom of the head too...the block and entire botton of the car is soaked in oil.

Guess it's time to pull the motor and git it a much needed overhaul.
