Hey Guys....Do any of you have the pair of black original hold down/tie down straps that came with luggage rack cars? I noticed there were 2 nos racks on ebay with some insane prices on them. They both had the straps. If you have them and can post a close-up here or email me a photo directly it would be greatly appreciated. I'm going to need to find a pair but have no idea what I am looking for. Up until today i didn't even know they existed. thanks, Steve

Possible part number here;

I do not think that price is still valid though.

And on another note using PartsVoice.com it looks like Collectors Auto Supply might have an NOS set....

I'd love to get that sticker about the maximum weight for my rack.
By any chance, anybody make those????

According to the 70-71 Parts Book, this is the contents of the luggage rack package.

I don't see them in Frank Mitchell's auction. If they were there he would be bragging about them.

Thats a darn good point. the other auction with the straps, FLR (flying lead ranch), is greg selling the late ron adairs parts. is there anyone out there that has a survivor luggage rack car that may have them also to help shed some light on this? snoopy sure makes a good point as does barry that the straps do not show up as a component of the package.

YES the decal is reppoped by performance car graphics.

If the straps are not listed anywhere, it sure explains why none of us have seen them.

Steve
25 years ago or so at a Spring Carlisle ( when we used to find good stuff),
I bought a boxed NOS 3419498 luggage rack from a corvette vendor who had it mixed in with all his new vette racks, and just wanted rid of it.
It had everything listed in the rack package but no evidence of any straps.
Greg may have got them mixed up with with the later station wagon roof racks which I believe offered straps.
FLR....good one

Hi Steve,

I recently restored a 70 Challenger for the original owner of the car. It too had a luggage rack and we debated re-chroming his vs. buying the expensive one on ebay. I too was puzzled about the straps. After talking with the owner, he swore thet he never had any straps with the car. It's my belief that the straps never came on a factory installed rack. I believe however they were included/added to the over the counter part/kit.

This is the first I've heard of straps.

thanks guys for all input as i too will now lean towards NO straps. in the next few weeks i will spend time covering a date coded black suitcase with ORIGINAL stickers. I wonder if 40 year old mopar stickers still stick?

I bought an NOS rack from the dealer back around 1975 and installed it on my 73 Challenger. It did not come with straps.
