Hey guys. I have a 1984 d-150 4 speed 318. I have acquired a 1997 dodge van with a 360. Would really like to just plop the 360 and computer into my truck and have it fuel injected. is all I have to do is supply the computer with power to make this project work? Is there a seperate trans computer that works with the engine computer that is going to cause issues?

Thanks in advance.

a lot I don't know, but a few things I do know.
The computer takes some readings from the automatic if that is what it came with. You need a computer from a truck that came with a manual if you didn't take the transmission.

There are several things you won't need off the computer, but the 97 is not the easy year to drop in, but I cannot say for sure what your hold up will be.
The earlier computer setup (94 ish to 96 is my bet) was just power and ground and it ran. wedgeman (I think) did this recently. Might search for his posts.

whats wrong with the 318 as is? If you can find a M/T flywheel for that 360 (different from the one used on pre Magnum 360s) they do make carb'd intakes for Magnums these days (I just put Mag heads on my 83 D 250's original 318 shortblock with a carb about a year ago) that may be the way to go.

I have a 98 318 out of a Durango myself that I am rebuilding to go into my Volare. I have an engine wiring harness and computer from a 94 Dakota and I was "sure" I wanted to put taht 318 in there as an injected motor; after the Magnum head swap on my truck, now I ain't so sure I won't also stay carb'd on that Volare project.

I've done this type of swap before. Anything can be done, except you have to guy a lot of the unneeded wiring out of the EFI engine harness. Then you need to repin some wires to your stock bulkhead connector. Typically you only need a few wires powered/grounded to make the efi harness run the engine. But IMO a factory service manual with a complete diagram of the donor EFI harness as well as a bulkhead pinout diagram of the donor hanress is mandatory.

As the truck is right now, it is a carb'd 318 with the magnum head swap, using the mopar intake for those heads. Works great, just need another project haha.

EFI will make life easier for everyone who might need to drive the truck, and for those nice brisk PA winter mornings

Thanks for all the info guys, if theres more, I'm a sponge.

I have a 318 with EQ heads in my 83 D 250; (stock from 83 shortblock) 360-2bbl stock replacement cam, Performer intake, AFB, Hooker headers, Eddy double roller; WAY better tha when I got it as a 2bbl wheezer; (extremely stretched orig T chain "might" have had somethin to do with that). Stay carb'd... K.I.S.S.

only change I MIGHT make would be a swap to a TQ.
