i did something very stupid last night, and i have almost got everything back working, i have a 1968 dodge coronet, electric ign with ecu, i crank the car up, i turned the battery off and let the car run without the battery and i revd up the motor , this fried my ballaster and my ecu unit, and blew out my radio fuse, i have replaced everything and everything is now working except my dash lights and the accessory lights are not working, i have checked all fuses, i have checked the light switch, the headlights are working, it is only the dash lights, i checked the accessory plug that runs the ashtray lamp the ac and heater controls and there is no juice coming to this plug i have checked the dimmer switch in the dash it does have juice, i have wiring diagram, the flasher work, and when i turn the light switch on the flasher just stay on like they are suppose to, i just don't have dash lights, so what did i burn up and how do i fix this?

You are not getting power to the tan wire?
Is the the light switch on when you are checking for power? I think it needs to be on at least to the parking lights to supply power to the fuse box in this instance.
Is your panel dimmer on full brite?
the tan wire gets its power from the panel dimmer switch.
The panel dimmer switch I believe gets its power from the black wire at the headlight switch.

Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first.
Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.

I’m thinking your dimmer is dead. Rotate it up and down to see if there may be some burnt out spots. If you get erratic lighting it is bad. Head light works right? Do you have a volt meter and a test light? - With a test light one end on the battery + voltage touch the other end on the #1 fuse, the dash light or interior light (door open) should go on.
- Go to the dash dimmer, with the dimmer plugged in the tan wire should have battery voltage or at least light up a test light when the other end of the test light is grounded. If you have power here you have a break in the tan wire going to the fuse block.
- If the Tan wire has no voltage and no power, test the Black wire going into the dimmer switch (the other end of the black wire leads to the head light switch). If you have power there you have a bad or burnt out dimmer switch. If you do not have power and the head lights work then your light switch is most likely dead.
Hopefully the way I wrote is correct and you understand. I used this diagram hopefully it is correct for your car.

Just had the same problem ,your dimmer switch reistat has burned the wire in 2 ,your power comes from headlights to dimmer dash switch ,through it too fuse box ,its a tan wire ,someone had put a 20 amp fuse in my 69 rr fusebox ,it should be a 3 amp ,so this won,t happen ,it should blow fuse ,before burning up reistat ,i,m trying too soldier mine back togther, you can pull switch out without removing switch panel ,pull 2 screws on backside ,its tricky ,but possible ,hope this helps

I played with a 69 dash that refused to fire the dash lights. I tracked it down to the little regulator on the circuit board, it wasn't making a good connection across all 3 tabs/slots. I gave each blade a slight twist and ta-da!
I can't afford this.

Another trick is to jumper the dimmer rheostadt. Pull off the 3-wire connector, make a short jumper wire with 0.25" male tab connectors plug 3" long. Plug 1 male tab into each of the Orange wire sockets, now you have just jumpered the dimmer so the dash lites get a full 12V all the time. Also make another short jumper wire for the other terminal in the 3 conductor connector, and run it back to the dimmer switch. This is grounded when the the dimmer switch is rotated max rotation for the Dome lite.
Just my $0.01..

I would try to jump the black wire or the green with tracer (both wires go to the same connector) at the panel dimmer to the Tan wire at the panel dimmer. This should only give power when the parking lights go on. but I am only going by the wiring diagram. It does not tell me when the wires are hot. Try it, turn the parking lights on and the dash lights should go on. All these wires should be at the dimmer switch connector.
Leave the switch connected that way the door and the interior lights should still work.
