I am wondering how much you can take the deck down on a 440 block before you have to start machining the intake,I am running the performer rpm with the rpm heads And I want to use the 440source stroker kit, 4.250 crank,7.100 rods,17cc dish 1.480 c.d. pistons which leaves the pistons .015 down in the hole and gives me 10.05 to 1 with the 84cc heads with the .039 head gasket and a .054 quench.I am wanting close to a .040 quench and 10.50 to 1 comp.So I need to either bring the deck down or order custom pistons,so thats why I am asking. Thanks guys

What c.i. motor do you have and how is the idle?I was a little scared of the solid cams just because of them going flat and having to adj, them all the time,is that true?

what 1 wild RT said, Nothing will be exactly what the listed dimention is. Mill the head deck to get quench then set the heads/head gaskets on the decks and mockup the intake w valley pan and check the head/intake intake port(s) alignment w valley pan then either mill the head intake face or the intake for a perfect fit/port alignment. For either of these 2 checks fyi the head gasket only compresses a couple of thou so mock it up & see where you're at.

Mine is still just a pile of parts... I have done trial assembly, I want to do a few more small tweaks, the car isn't painted yet anyway so.... As far as cams going flat, hydraulics will do that too... I have EDM'd lifters & have a Nitrided cam... I have cases of GM EOS & I'm looking into a Voodoo doll to hang under my hood.. I thought long & hard about a roller but the bronze distributor gear & fuel pump pushrod issues made me feel like a standard flat tappet was the better street option...

I have the same engine that you are about to build, same heads, intake and stroker kit. I went with the comp XS290S solid and it works well. I used a cometic 0.027" MLS head gasket to increase compression and it gives me 0.042" quench. The deck was pretty square on my block so the thinner gasket saved me the cost of machining.

It idles at 850rpm with 9in vacuum, choppy sound but not too radical. The car weighs 3800# and it runs low 12's with 60 foot times in the 1.8's. Best to date is 12.03 @ 116. I'm working on the 60 foot times but it's not easy with a 4 speed.
