I've had the bug for awhile, this weekend I've watched the 'Ultimate Street Car Invitational' on speed channel 3 times.

No truck and trailer, no slicks or race gas, just a nice car with a back seat for the kids, big tires at all 4 corners, lowered, stick shift, drive anywhere, maybe hit a road course or parking lot slalom every now and then, or even drive it to a dragstrip.

That is why I want to get some low profile wheels and tires for my dads car. I'm already piecing together the 4 speed stuff for it. I originally wanted to do a fuel injection deal on his car but couldn't come up with the funds to do it. I think my pop would drive it more if it had more "modern" ammenities.

If it were my own personal corner carver I would buy back my Olds Cutlass I had in highschool.

Every time I think of a pro-touring car all I can imagine is those big donk wheels

No thanks

Your car looks much better than the one you picutred.

The wheels are just wrong IMHO

My '65 is more of a pro-touring car than anything else. Here is it at the drags but it looks more pro-touring than drag race. It has 17 inch wheels to clear the 13 inch brakes. Still runs about 120 mph in the 1/4 on street tires and then I kick it into 5th gear for the drive home.

I have not seen that show but I have always had a desire to build a car like this ... are there "rules" that say you have to have a back-seat?

A lite-weight Daytona would be the BESTest(Aero and weight wise) .. but the SLEEPER of the century would be a 5th Ave ...with a 408, a low gear 904 trans, police-suspension and a 2.24 rearend gear.

i have been toying with that idea with my 67 coronet 4 door.it has a 383 in it so a stroked 440 would be a easy swap and put some 17s on it .i have been helping a guy in the club on a 53 buick more of a show car but has the touring look.i'll try to post pic. of buick again.well for some reason i can't get the pic to show up. brad

I could like something like that really easily. My mustang wasn't pro touring but all it would have needed was a front sway bar and new wheels and tires it already had the springs etc. The drive anywhere aspect of it was nice. I could run low 12s at the track(mild tired 302) and drive out the gate all the way to alaska if I wanted to. It did need some more power though

I'm building what I consider a "pro touring" car, but the wheels are what make mine exempt from the label I guess.... I don't want the bigger wheels.

I don't mind 17" rims on the older cars, when it gets up to 20" or 22" it's not my cup of tea though....

I was sent this pic from my brother, and it's not my cuppa tea either...

I had the bug about 8 years ago. My 71 scamp is just a motor away from being complete. 12.5" brakes, big torsion bars, swaybars, 255/40/17 front 315/35/17 rear, mini-tubbed, 15 gallon fuel cell, scca rollbar, subframe connectors, all body seams fully welded, tko-600 5spd manual, dana 60 w/ 3.73, painted curious yellow, etc, etc etc. Had an f-1 procharger kit and was just waiting on my r-3 block. After waiting 2 1/2yrs for the block I gave up, sold the procharger and the car has sat waiting. I did buy some 5.7 hemi stuff for it, but I don't know if I will ever get back around to it. Now I'm into the stock appearing stuff.

I still have the bug. My car wont be a dedicated drag car, just cuz of that reason. I watched the show too, and it looks like a ton of fun.

Cool car Andy, those rims are some of the better ones i've seen.

yes, i had the bug for about 3 years with my challeneger but never built it. I still have some 18" rims I was gonna use and the sport seats i was gonna install.

I have the bug to I circle track race so I thought about a aspen petty kit car look alike. The cheepest and best handling way would be cut the body off and put it on a older bush grand national chassis, they are cheep and would easy to get parts for.I see the aspen with 18s and 20s setting low with fender flares, spoilers and the straps holding in the glass. Then add w5 headed used truck series motor and jerico trans with quickchange out back.THEN HANG ON !

69 fastback barracuda
5.7 hemi with tko600 5 speed from keisler
18X7 & 19X8 Budnik wheels (also have alumastars if needed)
classic autoair
logged 3000 miles on it two summers ago, but has been apart for a year and half for paint.

I try to stay away from the title pro-touring, but thats what most would label it.

Prosport, I built this car before I built a drag vehicle, because of the same reason you mentioned.

This coming summer it will also have a centrifugal supercharger (bought used).

Nice examples guys, I love it! I've always liked 70GmachineDart's car too. I think a procharger or mild twin turbo kit would make this project even more fun. I don't have one red cent for this idea so I'd have to sell my Dart to do it but it is fun to think about and may happen down the road if I grow any more tired of the drag racing expenses.
