I've had the bug for awhile, this weekend I've watched the 'Ultimate Street Car Invitational' on speed channel 3 times.
No truck and trailer, no slicks or race gas, just a nice car with a back seat for the kids, big tires at all 4 corners, lowered, stick shift, drive anywhere, maybe hit a road course or parking lot slalom every now and then, or even drive it to a dragstrip.
If somebody dies and leaves me some money, and I have the enthusiasm to build a car again, it will be a Pro Touring car. It won't be a Mopar though, it will be a '63 Vette with a new body and new frame that is designed to use C4 suspension and brakes. 500 hp EFI 427 smallblock with an overdrive automatic. Tangerine with gold pearl in the clear, light tan interior. Polished 18's all around, wrapped with Pirelli PZero's. She would be a runner, and a looker.
I built a Camaro along those lines...

At the moment, working on my Holden Torana (Aussie car) LS1/6 speed, 4 wheel 13" discs, A/C and power windows, custom 18" forged two piece wheels, etc,etc.. They were road race cars originally basically, so has a well thought out suspension setup to begin with..I'm just going to add modern adjustable shocks for the most part.

I'm kind of doing a pro touring car on a discreet level. It's a 1974 Challenger, original 360 Rally car.
The old FED got sold, the old Volare mule car got sold, and I'm down to just one ride that has to be a fits-all for all my fetishes.
Everything has to be housed in my tiny garage and I'm expecting a lot from the car. I still have my dragster 440 engines and the 87 octane driver 440.
I'm starting with the 87 octane 440, 727, gear vendor OD, and 3.23:1 SG. It's getting the Hotchkis underpinnings, and I'm going to stick with stock type 15", and or various Centerline wheels and tires that I already own. This is the low 12 second combination that can travel distance and still be repectable.
In time, one of the old digger motors and the Dana could go back in, and with the help of the gear vendor unit, the car should be able to travel distance on good pump gas and net a low 10.
I would like to try the $4000 Forgelines and $2000 Yokohamas that Hotchis has on their T/A test mule, but I still have lots of tires to use up.
Too many cars, too many parts, too little coin, too little space to work in, too little time left to make it all happen!
Update: down to one ride, still too many parts, a little more jingle in the pocket, gaining space, and it's going to happen this year!
