I have a 383 motor standard 2468130 casting. Casting date is 6-26-71 so a pretty late block. Top right pad reads G383 9 HP so a 71 model year. Left pad has a cross that looks like a small tee. The vin on the lower pad reads 2Gxxxxxx which is a 72 model from St.Louis. Thought that was kinda wierd.

a block cast in June 71 would not make it to a car till October or later so they would be well into the 72 model year!
Yes and how many 1972 383's have ya all seen???

Do you have the car with the '72 VIN#? Is the original paint on the engine (blue/orange)? GOT PICS?
Have the motor, not the car. It is orange. Has the 666 intake. 402 pan. I'll get some pics.

that maltese cross was put there to say that something was over or undersize in teh engine from the factory (Dont remember whether it pertained to bore or crank)
This isn't the maltese. Looks like a small Holy Cross.
