My 73 never had a cable.
Mine neither. Actually, I picked one up to put on mine, and then found that there is no provision for it. I think that the holes for the screws are only on the 70-style console.

that would be nice, im looking for the cable if ya got an extra laying around
I will send you mine for free, but I don't have the shouldered screws that go with it. I wonder if the chrome shouldered screws that hold the E-body door panels would work.
PM me with your address if you want it.

I think the shoulder screws used on the strap for 71-4 B-body glovebox doors are the same...As far as I know it was a 70 and early 71 console using that strap...

There are some hitters in the hobby that will argue that both console styles were used in 70 and 71 - depending on other options.
Me? I'm on the fence.
I'd like to hear more on that. I could understand using leftover 70 consoles in early built 71 cars, but it's hard to believe that the 70 console would have been available throughout the 71 year if you ordered the right options.
Which Options?

I thought 71 was when they brought in the ash tray on the back end of the console?

The 70 style console was used on early 71 production cars. 71 consoles were NOT used on 70 cars from the factory. I have an original 70 console that is BROWN in color, a color available only in 1971. I have also seen black original 70 consoles with a 71 cassette deck mounted on them from the factory. Remember, the top and bottom halves of each console are date coded. Anyone with a 71 console that thinks it was original to a 71 car should check out the date codes, htey will be dated in the 71 production year. That "wire" is the same on both 70 and 71 cars. The differences for 70 and 71 cars as far as the console lid area goes are as follows: The metal hinge has different ends on the metal rod that runs through the middle of the hinge, 70 has rounded ends, 71 has a rounded end and a square end. The lock changes from 70 to 71. The 70 lock is round like a barrel, the 71 lock has a square or rectangular end to it.
