on a 70 340 challenger 4 speed, under acceleration car will not go into 2nd or shifter locks up between 3rd and 4th. must let off and force into neutral to get to shift again. does this indicate a shifter rebuild needed or trans, clutch problems? thanks.

Cheapest and easiest thing to do is readjust the shift linkage. There is a hole through the arms on the shifter that lines up for correct adjustment.

Many times the shifter levers on the side of the trans. come loose. Don't ask me how I know.
Your problem is most likely in the shifter and or the rods including the levers. Good luck.

is it a factory pistol grip? how much slop is in the levers side to side? might need a rebuild, see brewers performance in ohio.ck the fit in all the levers and the rods. a sloppy shifter, and rods make a mess out of a trans to shift. then again it very well be the clutch NOT disengaging, from the mis adjustment, pilot bearing, ect. let out the clutch when stopped, push it in ,and try reverse, does it grind? maybe the input isnt stopping through the shifts?...then again the trans might be hurt....=call dan brewer.

it is factory push in style handle pistol grip. it has very much side to side play. in 3rd handle moves side to side allot and to get into reverse the handle comes over far enough for your hand to hit drivers leg.
