I am putting the Road Runner back together and can not remember what type of sealer was between the quarter panel and the extention. I think old age and 4+ years apart are causing this problem. I thought there was a thread on this but the search seemed confused when when I tried it. Any and all help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.... Bruce
P.S. 1969 is the year I know they sell a gasket but this car did not have those when I took it apart.

They may have been taken off years ago. They did come from the factory with gaskets. Remember, your car is 41 years old. A lot can go on in that much time.

No gaskets. Use 3M Heavy Duty Drip Check in between the outside edge of the mating surfaces and wipe off the excess. It's a paintable seam sealer in a squeeze tube. Do not use any sealer across the bottom. That is how the extensions drain (the bezels don't fit water tight). Mine is A4 too...

If you ever took any originals apart, you would see remnants of a hardened sealer... No gaskets. What documentation do you have that calls for gaskets? A gasket would make the joint too big.

Some 69's DID have gaskets. Majority used some kind of black seam sealer. No 70's had gaskets.

Thanks all for the help. I know this is the place to come when the brain fade takes over. I know I have seen them with gaskets but this car had never been apart so I did not think gaskets were the answer.RoadRunnerjd post some pictures if you can.I painted mine alittle more silver then a4 when I did this used the same silver as on the new Mopars...Challengers,Jeeps and 300's.Really pops in the sun. Also has A4/pewter interior from the factory so aliitle different then most...I hope.
Again Thanks to all...Bruce

Unless you a doing a trailer queen I would use the gaskets. They aren't really meant to seal. More of an anti-abrasion device. They are very firm, .030" black plastic. would still use dum-dumm (black butyl strips) on the studs/nuts.

If you use a gasket, there's no place fir the water to drain out of the fender extension. Click on my signature link below for some photos. It's A4/B7 bright blue bucket seat interior

Those plastic qtr extension "gasket" aren't really gaskets. More of an anti abrasion device. They can't seal. Theres no compliance to them.

The original caulk is white and there aren't any gaskets on 69 road runners. 3m Fast and firm works great. It seals and holds the paint for years and years. Put it on, assemble , wipe the excess off with your finger, let harden and paint as usual.

This picture is of a 69 qtr ext WITH a factory gasket laying to the side and my gasket ON the part. Took me 2 years to find someone with a real factory qtr ext gasket with a factory part number on it.

What was that about "no gaskets on a 69"? Now there are NO gaskets on 70's even though REM sells a crude rubber one. I make a 70 Coronet qtr ext gasket even though the factory never did. I made it cause a few people asked for them. I'll probably do one for 70 Plymouths too.
