They have line lock switches that are not momentary switches?

Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first.
Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.

There are some push button micro switches that will work great. I'm sure Mc Master Car or others will have them.
If you need to you can use a relay if necessary.
I agree with your customer it is great to have it in the shifter.
Good luck

You can find the right micro switch and completely hide it in the shift handle. Plus I rigged an LED so when it was in overdrive it lit up.
It was nice to know, however that was a stick.
If he is going to have overdrive in "D" then a light would be nice. If you want to get fancy hide and mount the switch so when he pushes the shifter button it goes into overdrive, Then mount a very small green led in the instrument panel and use a panel light power take off so it dims with the instrument panel lights.
It would take just a little extra effort but he'd be a happy camper.

You will have to research this unless someone else knows but I believe the housing can be taken apart. Inside if I remember correctly is a typical micro switch. You can replace the momentary switch with a on off switch if available from a electrical supply co.
