I have MP block assembly p4876908 with eddy heads and air gap intake. The intake is not lining up with the bolt holes because the deck was shaved. The MP tech line said they couldn't tell me how much it was shaved because it was an older Cummins reman block and they no longer do business with them. I need to know so I can have the intake milled down to fit. Anyone know how much they took off these blocks?

It could be any amount decked off that they thought it needed. The one I had fit perfect with no gaskets,so I measured the gaskets I wanted to use,at .030- what I thought I needed for gasket compression.I had .027 cut from each side for a perfect fit.
According to the M.P.crate engine book, they were supposed to be set at a certain deck height, but the "908" shortblock I had(also from Cummins)had such terrible machining elsewhere, that I would not trust what it was "supposed" to be.

After you determine how much the intake needs to be lowered to match
the bolt holes in the heads, multiply that number by .900 or the tangent
of 42º

So, if you need the manifold lowered .060":

.060 x .900 = .054" per side.

Make sure you use a gasket for initial measurement.

Wouldn't it be better to have the intake side of the head shaved instead of the intake? That way if you wanted to try different intake manifolds you wouldn't have to have the intake manifold shaved every time. Just something to think about

I thought about that, but if I ever use these heads on a different block, I would run into the problem of having to get the deck height just right. Plus the heads and valve train are already installed. I'm hoping not to ever have to change either though. This is a mostly street driven car, so I won't be swapping intakes.

Another question. I know my pistons were .017 in the hole. With that number would I be able to calculate the deck height?
