I am getting my final gauges together

https://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/show...part=1&vc=1

I am about to order he trans temp gauage there are 2 types
Autometer 4357 Electric http://www.autometer.com/cat_gaugedetail.aspx?gid=3108&sid=11
Autometer 4351 Mechanical http://www.autometer.com/cat_gaugedetail.aspx?gid=3184&sid=11

Any reason to go one way or the other?

I use electric for ease of installation.

Same here. The mechanical might give you slightly more accurate readings (????), but the install will have a considerably higher Pain in the a$$ factor!

Are you guys mounting them in the pan or in line,
how much change do you see in the line during a normal
warm up/run(if you use the line)

I have said it before.....
putting a trans temp gauge in my Duster was something I never should have done. An old friend of mine told me not to do it. He said all you're going to do is keep looking at that gauge as it gets higher and it's going to worry you when your mind should be on other things...........HE WAS RIGHT

mine is in my pan. i figure that's where the temp really matters. i'm gonna install a line pressure gauge as well. and maybe differential temp! i love information.

for what is the good life if not doing things thoughtfully?

I have run them in the line and in the pan.

The line is good because you know what the fluid temp coming out of the converter is as soon as you start the car up and put it in gear.
The only thing bad about monitoring line temp is that you have to have the car running and in gear to get an accurate reading. And it surges alot faster when you make a pass and if I remember correctly its quite a bit higher then the pan temp.

Mine was like 50 or 60 degrees higher.

The temp guage in the pan seems to react slower on my cars.

I use a toggle switch with 2 senders. One for engine oil temp and the other for trans. A 3 position switch with a 3rd sender could be used to read trans line temp as well.

I have a Cyberdyne gauge with a three postion rotary switch to monitor the water, oil and trans. temps, it is real slow to change thr readings when I try to use it with the igntion on, taking forever to get to the current reading of that sender , it counts down or up one degree at a time . If I turn the power off and then switch it and turn it abck on it reads the tempature of that sender immedialty Maybe some of the other brands won't do that, I wish mine didn't

i have my trans temp guage on the return from the cooler. at the last meeting i noticed the temp creeping up. pulled the trans after the meeting & found the pump bush was on its way to a major fail. that guage saved me big $$$
