Great Video! Thankfully they didn't put music over the sound of the cars.

As it says at the bottom of the video, that was a portion of one of Jim Amos' vintage drag racing videos he sells through BeeOnVideo. Jim is a great guy who lived during that period, and raced at a lot of those tracks. He narrates most of the videos, but does a great job, very informative. He has lots of colorful interviews with racers from that period also on the vids. All those that are interested in great vintage drag footage should do a search for beeonvideo, and give Jim some business, keep the racing history alive, and keep a former fellow racer turning out some nice stuff.
Yeah, it's got a hemi........a REAL hemi.

Neat video. I'm guessing the engine sounds were dubbed in?

Sure was a lot of 4 spd cars back in the day. Pretty crazy with no guardrails, just out in the country somewhere. Kind of cool to see where all of this started from.

late 80's, drag racing was fun when it was less expensive.
Some kids got jobs at the public works for the county. They had fleet vehicles ford, GM, Mopar. Word got around they had good core rebuilds for High School garage wrenches. Complete drum to drum 3rd's for $100 (ford 9",mopar 8.75 dana, GM 7.5's for a can of soup). Same with long block 350" gm/360" crysler/302" ford engines. runner V8's for under $100. A quick driveway honing. not even Boring the engines. Replace only the valve seals, and rings. Quick cam+springs, choice of Gear, 4 speed, and you had a tough ride for a student. None of this is even close to possible now. Everybody seems to have 40k in their 666" cu RB Mopar Mountain Crusher. Do we yearn for the simpler more experimental days? Our youth? Was it the music? Or a dirty wave thats being washed clean as time goes.
Soon we will have 60,000kVolt DC brushless motors pushing 2000 ft/lbs running the quarter. Just remember to charge it overnight.

Great post; I can remember the days. I started when the handicap was lines across the track every 20 feet and you spotted car lengths (up to 5 or 6). Start was a flag drop, no starting line glue, & bleach burnouts were aloud.
Clean it, if it's Dirty. Oil it, if it Squeaks.
But: Don't fix it, if it Works!

I started out just when the tree was introduced, only one problem , two cars ran ,the timing system only had capability of one time slip. Fastest car always got a time, so you had to pick a slow car to run to get a time. No 60 foot , no reaction time. And to top it all off it was fun.
it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

Ran through that experience ( speed and ET was all you got )and at the time my track was running 4 at a time. When they updated their timing system to give time slips for both lanes, they continued to run 4 at a time, so you still only had a 50/50 chance of getting a time slip. My max wedge car was usually one of the faster stockers, so I would get an ET slip most of the time. Took my brothers VW once and had to make many many passes to get a #.
