Can anyone give me the low down on the wood grain top plate from a 71 console fitting a 70? If my memory serves me well I think the 71's have four holes? Is the door the same?
Thanks

71-4 has a plate screw next to the shifter as where 70 doesn't.
71-4 has a rear ash tray and 70 has a hole for the seat belts.
Think the doors are the same but not positive.

Woodgrain is the same shape for all years (though different for auto v. 4-speed). No reason you couldn't fill the etra hole before applying the decal.

I have seen '70 style consoles as original equipment in '71s through build dates of Nov '70 (both b + e body)

I've got a nice 71 plate, I will probably try to fill the one hole and sand it out smooth and apply the decal. What do you guys think would work good for this? solder, epoxy, bodyfiller?

Epoxy works best, but a bit of roughing up helps. Best to let it sit awhile for shrinkage than sand. BTW I thought the woodgrain was a bit "grainy" for the 1970 plates?

Vlad- my '71 GTX with an SPD of C17 also came with the '70 style console. The lastest date I have seen personally so far.
