Has anyone taken these mirrors apart? The glass is held in place by a tension or snap ring with a metal plate and spring behind the mirror glass.
My question is how do you separate the ball stud (swivel) from the 2 post mount. It looks like it might unscrew but after soaking in pb blaster I can't get it to budge using vice grips on the ball and I'm afraid I will break something Thanks, Mike.

On most mirrors the ball stud is splined and pressed into the mirror stand. They are usually difficult to extract.Maybe you'll get lucky and it will come out easy.

You can also use a little heat but be careful, pot metal turns to liquid real quick.

Does anybody know when the factory switched from twin post to single post mirrors,I assume it was sometime in late 65 or early 66?

I give up trying to get the NOS mirror head put in mine. Not tough enough to hold it and a vice will chew the pot metal and chrome up.

Any other ideas?
