I don't buy that, just put new fluid back in there of the correct type. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/Twocents.gif) Change filter too.

I have a 98 durango with close to 160k on it. The trans pan has a rust hole in the side and I am losing fluid out of it. I have read that changing the fluid on a high millage trans can cause problems. If I decide to replace the pan, should I try to "catch" the fluid and put it back in when the new pan is on? Thanks-Jon
If you do reuse it....at least run it through a paint strainer.

It's your call , I personally know of 2 people that I advised against changing the fluid , one was a 76 pontiac with only 60k miles , but the car was almost 20 yrs old , the trans went out a couple weeks later , the other was an 85 bmw 5 series with almost 200k on it , the trans was starting to slip , the fluid change was the nail in the coffin for that one .
