The 528 only has about 500 effective lift. but a lot of guys run 509's hydraulic cams, which actually has more lift than the 528, with stock pistons.Not sure about the lift or specs on the cam you are talking about.

I'm assuming those particular pistons are not domed so w flattops there would not be a piston to head interference problem unless you have a zero deck and a gasket thinner than ~.035 which doesn't sound like the case. On the V/P clearance how far in the hole are the pistons?

if you run it at the "recommended lash" I ran mine at .022-.024. Still I know what you mean, he'll be fine.
