the c-body axle may or may not be canidates for cut/respline
if the do not tapper down they can be cut
they can taper down after 28 inches, but not in the 28 inch area, IIRC
c-body and truck are the best ones to look at to find a set that can be cut/resplined though
my 73 newport c-body are a no go
my 72 4x4 truck was a go but had the 5 on 5.5 wbp, they can redrill them to 5 on 4.5 though
seems my 30" e-body axle could be cut also
I just got a set of custom alloy A-body axles with the large brake offset from moser with green bearings for about 299 a set, good to 500 HP back in 2000
I had them cut a c-body housing down to A-body specs and weld on new spring perches
remember when fitting rims, the large brake offset will make the whole rear 1/2" wider than a stock A-body 8 3/4..1/4" each side
i ran 7" rims with a 4 1/2" backset on the rim with a 245/60/15 on a 68 Dart
they were center in the wheelwells with about a 1/4" clearance on the fender lip and at the tire bulge and spring
when I put the A-body 8 3/4 in my 85 truck (they share the same 43" spring centers) I went to a 12" rim and 4 1/2 back space with 29x15x15 M/Ts
just right on the tire bulge and spring like in the Dart
measure the c-body axle and see where your at first
