Throw that fram filter away and get a good one like wix.
I totally agree! Example: old 318 92 Ramcharger, changed the oil a couple of winters ago, used a Fram filter and noticed the same issue, I thought the engine was going bad, asked some friends their thoughts, even bought a new oil pump to go in it...then here on this board, many members were mentioning their displeasure with fram filters. I then bought a NAPA gold filter (Wix I believe) and the problem went away. I was elated!

I have always used nothing but Wix & Factory Mopar filters on V-10. (Got a case of OEM filters for free once). Mine is a 96 with 120+ now. I have noticed I have the same problem with mine also. Never worried to much about it though & just figured it was more the gauge just catching up.

Changed the oil again last night after only 120 miles on the old. Does not look good. Oil was already very dark and appeared to have a lot of metallic particles in it. I went with a lighter weight oil hoping it would be a little easier for the pump to pick up when cold and put on a Wix filter. Its still taking longer than it should for the pressure to come up when cold, but it is better. At this point its just a matter of how long is it going to live. Might run forever like this, or it could die tomorrow.
You probably ought to go with a thicker oil like 20w50 if you found metallic particles. Might be excessive clearance in the bearings from wear causing the drop in pressure and the thicker oil will help bring the pressure back up.
You really dont want it to drop like that.
If you're willing to work, it wouldnt hurt to pull the pan, inspect the pickup screen, and see if it's plugged with crap. That can happen since the screens are fine and your engine is getting up there in miles. Might be some sludge in there.
But while you're in there you could also change the pump.
Excessive bearing clearance, plugged pickup screen, bad pump, bad sender. Could be any one of the four, but I almost want to rule out the sender. They do this from time to time, but it sounds more to me lie you have a legitimate pressure issue and not an electrical issue with the sender.
Good luck. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbs.gif)

The oil pressure is fine once it comes up, it just takes forever for it to pick up oil on initial start up or after it has been sitting for any length of time. I started to pull the pan last night, but after looking at it the pan almost sits on the cross member and I dont have a way here to hold the engine up to get room to remove it.
I would check the pressure with a known good mechanical guage. Seen many slow and erratic sending units. I think the motor has to come out for pan removal or the tranny removed for the pan to come back. I am not 100 percent sure but that is a long pan.
