My machine shop is internally balancing my 4.15 stroke, 400 Based stroker motor. He asked me today that before he started, which balancer am I using. He said if I was using an ATI super damper it wouldn't matter.
I have not gotten one yet, but does it matter which one I use as long as I use a neutral balanced damper? I know ATI is great quality, but can't I go with a Summit SFI internal balance and not have to worry about the balance being messed up?
Any recommendations?

I have great luck with a Fluid Dampner,I was running a 572 hemi on alcohol with a 500 shot of NX,it always worked great..Also they had a recall on a balancer I had for 3 years and they fixed it for free you got to love that.

Probably not relevant but when I had my 67 440 balanced I had to bring them the stock balancer for them to balance the engine..

I may have to, I just wasn't really in too much of a hurry... I just figured there had to be some machine shop guys on here that have hands on experiences with stuff like this

ATI's come pre-balanced from the factory.

My question is, does an ATI come better neutral balanced than any other neutral balanced balancer? If you are internally balancing an engine, do you need the balancer? Or can I just buy any neutral Balanced damper after it was balanced?

Neutral balance is neutral balance, how close they balance it is another thing. I guess it depends on who does it and unless someone has done a comparison who knows. I'm assuming any good neutral balanced one will work, it's getting balanced with the rotating assembly.

I can't speak to that.

There are 2 and 3 ring ATI balancers available, with the 3 ring being better. There are additional costs in running the 3 ring, but they're somewhat offset by the $70 difference in price.

The 3 ring is thicker, and you'll need a longer damper bolt, special crank pulley, longer pulley bolts, and a shorter belt if you want to run a stock 3 pulley type set up. I recently worked out all of the parts required to make it simple. PM me if you decide to go that way.

Thanks guys, for the help.
64Post, I am not sure which way I am going with the pulleys yet, but I will PM when I do.

Neutral balance is neutral balance , some are closer than others ... ??? ... , your shop is RECOMMENDING to you to go with the ATI , that's all, you seem to be reading into it way too much. If you want to use something else then I would tell that to the shop before you get it and have the shop spin it and they can correct it as/if necessary. I have a BHJ and had it spun , it was out a little , drill a hole , fixed .
