Can I replace my broken cable with a Lokar 24" universal cable? Would this be a hassle? I am aware that Imperial makes a replacement, but I'm not worried about getting an OEM part. Could I adapt one of the Mopar throttle cable replacements by adding a "clevis" to the accelerator pedal end so it attaches to my pedal?

Thanks

I used a 73 Dart /6 cable on my 65 440.I needed a longer one with my M1 and Dominator.I did modify the pedal end of the cable so it worked with my 65 Pedal. It was pretty simple to do even though I cant remember how I did it now.If I looked at it I could probally remember. Rocky

Thanks Rocky,
I had the same problem with my 64'. The original cable was too short for my 440 with an Edelbrok RPM manifold. You used a 73' Duster 6 banger cable? Did you get one from a junkyard or buy one? I'd hate to rely on a 40 year old junkyard cable. If you remember how you adapted it to the accelerator pedal please let me know. I wish they made more parts for the early A and B bodies.
Thanks!!

I had a 73 Dart we scrapped.I remember doing it but cant remember how.Once I had the firewall piece out it was pretty simple to do.Its been in for 2 years and I have heavy dual springs. No problesm and its street driven.Only the pedal part needs mods.I just slipped the cable thru the hole in the firewall and clamped it on the Mancini adapter.Rocky

Mancini Racing has an adaptor that will make it work?

For my 64 Polara, I cut off the clevis (or whatever you call it) from my old cable using a cutoff wheel to make a slot just large enough that I could slide the cable through it, then put it on the new cable and used a dab of weld to close the slot (obviously you don't want to weld the clevis to the cable). This setup has worked well for over a decade.

Which throttle cable did you use?

I wonder if I couldn't re-use the old cable housing, etc., and re-string it with new steel cable.

Ha, I sure don't remember, I imagine just your standard-issue 66-up big block replacement cable.

With the right material and tools, I'm sure you could, but you're on your own here . . . .

I used the Lokar cable on my 63. It works great and was not a hassle to install. Just have to cut the cable for the right lenth but it is easy. Ron

Did the same with this on my 62,no problems at all and it required a shorter cable because or throttle shaft placement.

Any problems mounting the cable at the accelerator pedal?
Did you have to cut the casing? Any trick to determining the wire length needed?

Thanks

All inline 2x4's were mechanical,no cable.Changing my 62 to cable was easy.

For those using the after market cable kits, You can buy replacement cables from your local cyclery shop for about $5. The cables are plenty long and have barrel/slug ends. Wa-a-ay more affordable than the alternative.
