the alternator was also replaced at approximately 4 or 5 years ago. however, a loose tab and faulty factory wiring led to a short issue against the block/head.

car has been re-wired, and i now run all new gauges in custom panel - the voltmeter i installed is working correctly and the battery is not charging - slow steady drop in power.

i'm assuming alternator is the problem, but thought maybe the regulator might be limiting too much - idk if that's possible.

can i test the alternator with a multimeter and what kind of numbers should i be looking for?

set the throttle at a fast idle & touch a screwdriver metal tip to the center of the alt on the back side & see if you feel magnetism which'll tell you its charging some. Then put the VOM on volts and touch the red positive lead to the large alt batt stud and the black negative lead over to the battery negative terminal. not sure on a good reading range but in the 13's at least. EDIT check the field terminal voltages also
