I just pulled a Hughes Engine cam out of my 451 stroker. One of the exhaust lobes was worn off and the matching lifter bottom was beat out pretty bad. The engine has about 6k miles on a complete rebuild. Does anyone know if this is typical of Hughes brand components or are their parts normally of a good quality? I understand I may have some other issue or I just got the bad cam/lifter of the bunch. Any recommendations on other cam brands? I really liked the way this cam performed, and want to stay in the general area for lift/duration. HEH 2832 Specs: I .524 E .540 LSA 110 Duration @50 I 228 E 232
Any help or comments are appreciated.
400 block, 440 forged crank, Edel. Heads, 6 pak setup, elec ign, hughes brand lifter, good oil pressure, used but well with in specs rocker arms and shafts. Oh, running 3:23 gears with 3:55 or 3:91's available to match the cam.

What oil are you using? I would have to assume it is flat tappet and not a roller. And no that is not typical of a Hughes cam. Call and talk to them. They are very helpful and willing to take the time to help you figure it out.

I got several of their cams in use. Couple in bracket race engines and one in street drive duster.

Have not had any problems. Street driven small block duster uses 10-40.

Good to know. I'm just a hobbyist and dont know all the ins and outs. I just wanted to make sure I'm getting good parts. Would anyone recommend using aftermarket rocker arms instead of the stock stamped versions? Has anyone tried the Hughes rockers? 440 source rockers?
