I have a brand new stock replacement electronic ignition distributor. My question is, how much different is a Mopar Performance electronic ignition distributor? If they really aren't that much different, what upgrades should I do to the stock unit to make it perform equal to the MP unit?

FBO www.4secondsflat.com sells a flat plate to place on top of the slots to limit advance. haven't bought (or seen one) but it sounds worth checking out.

as stated, only differences are the counterweights system, what is adjustable to teh desired curve. Rest is a bone stock piece. Same bushings, same pick up trigger, same vacuum, same cap and rotor, and even same housing.
Oh and also the shaft flat end is APROXIMATELLY 90 degrees off with the rotor than the stock dist making the rotor off the original #1 on cap. Some to consider when setting spark plug wires. You can reset the spark plug wires dist at cap, or relocate the interm, ediate oil shaft to keep the number one on original point ( what is what I made )

The race dizzy has a better, more race oriented reluctor/pickup setup if I remember right.
nope, false, is the same stock unit, Just replaced mine new dist pick up coil what got damaged with my old stock unit... both measured same resistance ( around 390 Ohms )... of course when I could measure the "new" on my brand new dist before got damaged.
also replaced the vacuum with the old that I had because it was a new replacement on my old dist and it have the Mopar PNs stamped on it, and this one also smaller diameter vacuum chamber than the new MP got, what I think is no more than a Standard unit. Both same 9 lbs.

Justin here's the piece w the slots to be shortened. Nacho your comment about the phasing being 90 deg off has given me an idea of cutting another slot in the piece shown to (with reclocking the inter shaft) shift the rotor to get my phasing dead on.

well is not EXACTLY 90 degrees... just aprox. I don't think will be something to take care cutting something somewehere, unles you want to win something about, and you know what exactly are doing. Honestly if you are talking about reluctor phasing itself, I would modify better a reluctor what if goes wrong is cheaper to get a new one. just my

Nacho that is HARD steel. Been experimenting alot lately & I tried w 2 different types of mini drill bits to drill in each end where the slots are then add a setscrew (on each end) to change the slot length & I'd just have to R&R the vac adv can to access it. Havent found a bit yet to get r done

The MP ones have a completely custom made body. It looks close to the normal ones but it's not. I don't know about the end being 90 degrees off either. It wasn't on mine. Maybe all this is different between SB and BB ones.
what year you got your one ? newer Mallory units are in that way
mine is BB
Around 2000 or 2001. It's the new kind. SB.
