Back at askin' qustions again...that's what happens when you buy a car in pieces!! Car is 68 GTX auto. Anyways. I am trying to find out how the console wiring harness that comes out of the front of the console (for console lights, shifter light, and back up switch) connects to the dash harness. I don't see any connector in my dash harness, but that doesn't surprise me 'cause I'm sure that the previous owner just threw anything in the car for spare parts without knowing what they came out of!! I'd like to either get a snap shot of where the harness connects into the dash wiring, or maybe a diagram of how it's wired. It's probably pretty simple since the majority of the wires are yellow and pink, so those are the dome and courtesy circuits anyways, but it'd be kinda nice to get it right. The other alternative...anyone maybe have a dash harness from a console car for sale???

As the previous poster suggested. The console has a small harness. There is a second harness that runs under driver seat to wire channel along inside of car. The wire then runs up to kick panel area where it plugs in. The connector will be very near the yellow wire that connects to door switch for courtesty light. I assume you are missing the secondary harness from kick panel to console.

You may have to look inside the short (6" or so long) plastic sleeve that is attached to the kick panel attaching sheet metal. The connector could be inside it.

Only other plug there is a two prong connector (yellow & pink) for the dome lite wiring and the dome lite harness I have plugs right in. There must be another harness needed in this area.

Could be that 68 is different hook up than 69 & 70. All the 70 models I have worked on over the years had the console wired this way. The 68 parts catalog calls for two harnesses: 2631915 console wiring on console and 2822451 console wiring on body.

By the sounds of it, I am missing that harness from the left kick panel to the fuse block. I have 3 dash harnesses and none of them seem to include this harness you're talking about. I'm OK from the console to the kick panel, but then that's where it ends. Any leads on here as to who may have one??? It's the last wiring "hurdle" so it'd be nice to finish. Thanks

Sorry I didn't get back with the diagram sooner. I know not long ago member RAH (Bob) had a 68 console harness 4 sale. May want to PM him, I've bought a few things from him and he's a great guy to deal with.

I looked everywhere for the harness's and no luck. I did find a guy with a cut up totalled '68 Charger. He found the connectors for the under the carpet harness and the assembly that plugs into that. The wiring was cut and long gone but I used the conectors and made my own harness's. NAPA has all the appropriate colored wire and terminals. There are no connections in the main dash harness for the console. It was a simple add-on harness for a console car that simply spliced into the door jamb switches and got power from the piggy back connectors on the fuse block. The reverse lite switch plugged into the wires that were there on the dash harness for the column mounted switch LMK if I can help anymore Chuck

Chuck...you've helped immensely here!!! I think I will try to make the harness I need. Is it the Pink wire that gets it's power from the fuse block?? The yellow wires seem to make sense and the b/u wires and ground as well. Thanks for everything so far. Richard
Yes the pink is the feed from the fuse block. The yellow are grounds that go to the door jamb switches. When you open the door it completes the circuit. I totally forgot about the orange wire in the harness that you are missing. It goes on the piggyback connector on the back of the fuse block as well.It supplies power to your indicator light in the console. Glad I could be of help. If I can help anymore LMK!!! Chuck

I believe on my 70 B-Body (its been a while I will try to get pics tonight) either the console harness or the dome light harness has a double connector on it where they both plug into that yellow and pink connection on your dash harness. I would think 68 would be the same. As I said its been a while, I will look tonight. I may have an extra I would just send you.

Here are pics of a 70 console harness. The Console harness plugs into the dome light harness and the console harness has an extra connector for the dash harness connector that is located in the drivers kickpanel location. You shouldn't need to run from your fusebox if a 68 uses the same console harness. This is for a 4-speed console. I know the harness for an auto trans is slightly different due to the selector lighting. But it should be similar as far as how it connects to the dash harness. Hope this helps
