FEDERAL drug charges

The people that should be brought-UP on "charges" ARE the FEDS. IF they stopped drug-trafficing and the usage of same - THEY would be out-of-business.

The FEDS and their "war" on drugs, cancer and poverty ? ......

I liked Scott and Darrell. Both nice guys and fun at the track.

I had a great friend who worked with the team in the period before, during, and after the "Break In". I've known this person to be a straight shooter and honest and not a gossip. It was told to me in logical detail that the whole thing was very complicated and involved some politics, sponsorship concerns, all regarding the use of NOS. When you consider their fall from domination, and that the engines destroyed happened to be the only engines apparantly that could make the big power, THE ONLY LOGICAL CONCLUSION IS THEY must have been forged by the legendary maker of Excaliber, or come from outer space. There are a lot of strong, but circumstantial things that make the whole break in and following failure to recover or even qualify VERY suspect, to put it kindly.

I won't go into the details, or who the person was that told me, but I was told about some of these possible infractions before the "break in", and was told much more after the break in.

I hold the person who told me this to be in good standing, and is not one to exagerate or BS.

I know what I believe, but also think it's better to let this one RIP.

There are a couple of locals who are in the know, and we should sit down and go over the time frame again while it's still fairly fresh in all our minds, and swap some stories over a beer for laughs.

Sadly, some die hards will never allow themselves to believe that the Wayne County guys would ever do anything like this, and will stand by the "prove it to me, they weren't convicted," etc.. It was all supposed to go down more discreetly than that.

As Herb McCandless once told me, there 2 kinds of racers, cheaters and losers. That statement always stuck with me after listening to some of his racing stories and what they did to thier cars. There are those who will always bend the rules a little or in todays terms, being creative. Still happens at every race as well as Nascar.

I agree...IMHO too many are quick to say "cheating". In many instances if you peel it back further, we'd probably find more situations are resultant of rule interpretation, capitalizing on what's NOT implied in a rule vs. what is implied. And lastly being inovative.

As an example; I think it was the late Gary Ormsby who had "The Terrible Towell": He simply placed a hand towell over his go-pedal throughout the season and the competition went absolutely nuts, got angry, demanded action. This gained enough momentum that the competition demanded NHRA inspect the go-pedal and the throttle design to insure Gary wasn't cheating. Turns out it was nothing more than one of the greatest psychological play's in NHRA history. Gary trumped his competition psychologically...is that cheating too?

What about Greg Anderson and his "backfires" when letting off a couple of years ago. You dont see anyone chasing down GM to get to the bottom of that. THEY ALL CHEAT....its who does it best that wins.

Met Darrell and Scott at E-town who were kind enough to sign some stuff for me and chat for a few minutes back in the 90's.

Darrell can drive my car anytime

Try and follow this link to you tube. Great video if you can get it to play. Either way we look at it N.H.R.A. is was and always will be about who cheated who and so on. Someway or the other everyone, Garlits, Glidden, Force and many many others have been accused. Thats racing in all aspects. Darrell in my book is still one of the best drivers out there. Thank you, Ken Michalik

My S&M Duster has all the hardware for belly pans but I never saw any pictures with them on the car ? I asked Dave Christie and Herb what the deal was regarding them and did they work out OK.. They broke out in laughter and I asked why ? they only put the belly pans on the car to distract the tech guys and get some other sneaky trick past them. it worked . tech crew was so involved in a ruling they never got any further that day on the car. whatever they did passed tech

....my point exactly.

Do you know what WC Fields said when he was caught reading the Bible?

"I'm looking for loopholes"

The NHRA rulebook (Any rulebook really) should be read in the same way...

True, but it was "entirely understood" that it was taboo. So universally recognized that no one, (almost no one) would admit to using it, and the teams went to remarkable lengths to hide it.

NHRA not having the specific rule and verbage in the rulebook for NOS in that class is like your employee handbook not specifically listing animal husbandry as forbidden in your company's office. It's a given, you should know better, and both will get you terminated. LOL

But since every ruling that goes against the wants of "some" winds up min court... Words & wording becomes a slippery slope... IE "I did not have sex with that woman"....

I have to call that BS along with the hear say evidence you posted. if it's not against the rules it's legal.

"I have to that BS along with the hear say evidence you posted. if it's not against the rules it's legal."

_____________________________________________

Really? Legal? Does that relate to mean allowed? If it was so legal, explain why all the teams didn't just openly take advantage of this legal loophole.

As per the hearsay, believe what you will. You tell me what you KNOW about the deal in a PM if you like, and we'll go from there. I didn't see any of it with my own 2 eyes firsthand, so it is what it is.

Old news is old for sure.
