I have a 02 Dodge Ram 4x4 1500 360V8 quad cab with the auto 46RE trans and the trans is slipping.

I have not seen any check engine lignts pop up at all and I am wondering if a OBDII scanner would tell me anything at all about the problem with the truck if no warning lights are on?

usually you will get a check engine like and a code for a speed sensor...

dont think you will get anything if the clutches or bands are bad...

is it slipping in every gear or ?

have you ever changed the filter/ fluid and adjust the bands?

Yes I changed he fluid and filter about 3weeks ago....and then started to have problems. I havent ever adjusted the bands.

It seems to slip in every gear. When the trans is cold I can put it in any gear but when the trans starts to heat up it doesnt want to move when I select a gear but may or may not if you wait awhile and it might shift itself into gear and then soon start slipping again.

It seems to be making a tinney humming noise when I put it is reverse or any forward gear but the noise stops when put in park.

How do I adjust the bands?

If it started after you did the filter change I'd drop the pan and see what you did wrong. Did you use atf+4 fluid? How many quarts did you put back in?

Had the same noise and slipping issuses with my 1500 Ram PU,.....for about 2 days, the converter was breaking up and pumping crap thru the tranny, lost all "gears" the next day,.....get ready for the rebuild, or replacement

I put in six quarts of ATF 4 total after just dropping the pan.

I will check again to see if there is anything as all I did was just change the filter.
