i have a 68 barracuda, just got a new wiring harness from year one. but i got it for a electroinc ign and updated alternator. i dont have a clue how to wire it up. more wires no wiring diagram... i thought that it would be easier to use the updated one than to buy a new replacement one and upgrade that one. im running msd 6al and a internally regulated 3 wire alternator now. does anybody know of a diagram or has done this in the past and can shed some light on this for me

Well, the Blue wire is usually a good one for the switched 12 volt source..
Having the MSD box, it will wire much diff than the factory...I would look at MSD's web site for a diagram but off memory..

Large red...runs straight to battery..or I should say to the main kill switch (not the battery side)
Large black should run to a good ground, or better straight to the battery negative side.
Small red on is the switch 12 volt wire (blue one) or any wire that is only hot with the ignition "ON"
Small black to ground.

Little orange and black go to the coil.
That leaves the pig tail to the dist.

ive got that much, but the part i dont get is the two wires that go to the "alternator indicator" one is dk grn and the other is dk blu.on a later (73) wiring diagram they come off the alt and go to the indicator then to the ballast resistor. but on my 68 i dont have a alternator indicator.... unless that is the "voltage regulator" i dont know, seems once again im in over my head

Small red needs to be connected to circuit that is hot in the ON and CRANK key position. If it is wired to just hot when on the car won't start...

If using MSD the ballast resistor does nothing. I thought you were using a toyata alt or something like that??

i do have the toyota alt. but i got a conversion wiring harness from year one b/c i thought that it would be easier to put the whole system together with that. so when i unrolled it im looking at new plugs that go the things i dont have and i know i wont use, but i dont know how to eliminate them. but i have since called year one and they are returning it for me and giving me a new stock style harness. which i can then copy what i had previously done. well the correct parts... so i guess this is now a mute point. thanks guys.

You're probably better off just using your old harness. Take all the wiring apart. And remove the spades in the bulkhead connector that you don't need. Or you could buy the snap in mopar spades. Some good oil resistant wiring and run only the wires you need. I only have three wires running into my bulk head from the engine compartment. It's alot cleaner and you don't have all the loose unused ends hanging all over.
