I want to keep the stock gas tank and gauge. What is the best way to make a 3/8 pick up for stock tank.
My two ideas were first to use a 3/8s steel line and match the original then hack off and drill out the old 5/16s pick and then braise or solder in the 3/8s line
Second hack of the old pick up then mount stainless or alum fitting like this and use 3/8 alum tube for a pick up.
Does the aftermarket make a 3/8 pickup replacement with a gauge as a bolt in?
Thanks

Without knowing all the details on you car I can't say for sure where to go but try-
YearOne
The Paddock
Jim's Auto Parts

There are many of these units available that fit in the factory tank with no mods & work with the factory gauge. they are available in 5/16", 3/8" & 1/2" & usually in either steel or stainless steel options, do the Google thing.

make sure you have a reason for the upgrade. 5/16 line is fine for most applications. I've seen B-body's w/ 440's run 11's with the old factory 5/16 line and a good fuel pump.

The fuel sender units in those aftermarket jobs are way out of calibration. Your best bet is to do what you planned and just put the larger line on your existing sending unit. Soft solder will work fine to seal it up and will not damage the rest of the unit.

I picked door #1. Cheap, simple to do, issue over!

I changed the pickup in my 65 to 3/8 just unsoldered the old one out and bent a new one and soldered a new steel one in.Then the sender went bad after a while.I ordered a new stainless 3/8 off Ebay.It was like 60 bucks. It works fairly accurate. Not 100 % but close.Rocky
