I mean what was the slowest car you've taken down the track, at it's maximum potential? My slowest three: 1. A borrowed '79 Mustang with a V6. Made it to the finals dialed 21.98. People hated me that night. 2. A somewhat six slant six powered Mirada. 22.22 dial, won some rounds each time out. 3. A borrowed Mid '80s Cavalier. 22.90 dial. That's all it had! Ron H. topside Too Many Posts Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 20,751 A collage of whims	I rented a Stratus 2.4/auto a couple of times to run in the "ricer class"; it started out around 16.50 but would pick up a tenth or two every pass. I was probably the first person to work the thing hard, I guess. It was like shootin' fish in a barrel since none of those kids could leave on time, but after the 4th round I either got greedy or bored and ran the thing out (thinking I'd dialed enough to cover the expected ET improvement). So I threw it away, but had fun. Second time out, I actually got the same car, and went a few rounds until I had to be somewhere else, and left the track early. On a .500 tree, I'd shallow stage and leave on the 3rd yellow. I can't remember the car's best ET, pretty sure it was low 16s. Sure ran good after a little exercise, though.

Also learned I could leave on the 4th amber (5 amber tree). The car was deadly consistent, I won 11 races in 1974-75. Car ran 19.6's. I would give my left nad for that car now.

Just an idea how slow it was I lost by two car lengths to a friends 66 Fury III with a stock 2bbl 318 poly. We (all 5 of us) were in my Dad's 77 Pace Arrow packin a 440....we broke out(went 27.99 on a 28.50 dial) against a 454 powered Class A that dropped the exhaust and ran open headers.....crazy days back then....

I felt like I could read War and Peace in between the time the green light came on and the finish line finally showed up. It was horribly inconsistent and made a terrible bracket car. Anonymous Unregistered A	I had a bone stock, 100% original, 70 Dart with a slant six that ran in the 21's.........It had big and skinny aluminum slot wheels on it and I hauled it to the track, because it wasn't tagged and insured yet.......You should have seen people's faces, that were lining up for the midnight drags, when I was leaving with a 21.20 dial in on the window of a car being hauled to the track.......

Since I had experience with that set up as well as my four speed '63 Sport Fury he asked me to run it for him. I don't remember the times, but it definitely wasn't any rocket. This was back in the days when Gateway was a 1/8 mi. track run by Tiny Minor. Tiny didn't believe in spending a lot of money on frivolous things like shut down room. As slow as that Nova was, trying to get it stopped with the ridiculous nine in. drums "the General" used was interesting to say the least. One guy with a truly fast Camaro actually rolled it trying to stop. Ah! The good old days.

Went 22.4 and floated the valves. When I picked up my time slip, the official said "Whatya got there, a bicycle?" Never could stop floating those valves.

I deep staged and cut a 0.030 light, the dial-in was 17.08 (Aug 18, 2007) Just a few weeks ago, in the street class I was against a 16.87 dial-in with my 9.25 dial-in. My 2004 Cavalier dialed 18.80's think I only ever one one round in it. Could smash the tree deepin it but would run anywhere from 18.60 - 18.99. Hard drving the stripe with guys coming dialed 12'0's. Ran my dads bone stock Iroc-Z camaro with a 305 in it. Dialed between 15.00 and 15.20. Won alot of rounds with that car. Went to 4 finals in 3 weekends with it. THe slowest i have ever gone was in Jr's Blew up an engine and Dad and I went up to the lawnmower shop and bought a bone stock 5HP briggs to race the next day and dialed 22.40 in the 1/8. I actually won one round in it against a car dialed 9.00 (pretty sure he ran out of Methanol before he left line.

Next season, let's have a Rental-car Nationals at Spokane Raceway. 4-cylinders only, preferably Mopar/GM/Ford to avoid the Ricer stigma. All-Mopar may be even better. Awards for best RT, best ET, slowest ET, and most radio stations changed during a winning run. Something cheesy but funny, to keep it honest. Or as honest as can be, it's just for fun. I'm enjoying this thread too much..!

HAHAHA I did the same thing this year to monster mopar. Horrible rust bucket 72 duster slant six haulin on the trailer I got some good looks. Best time of 18.001!!! I love it knyech1- '71 Sassy Grass Demon 340/904. Pump gas, 1.61 60ft, 7.439 1/8 @ 95mph, 11.824 1/4 @ 111mph "Not too bad for a pump gas 340, full of used parts and hillbilly ported stock heads." - V.B. '03 2500 5.9L HO 6-spd on 35's. 395hp/755ft-lb at tires.

The Avg. Valiant super stock T Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 1,091 Col. Ohio	I have taken my Rav4 down the track a few times. 22.04 has been the slowest(missed a shift) and its been as fast 19.92. I did beat a BMW that day. Cut an .055 light to his .789. Also had a 91 Honda hatch that I beat a 94 Mustang(v6)in, he had to have thought he had a cool car. It was a grudge type thing. I didnt have $1k in the Honda, but it still ran 15.15 to his 15.41. I still remember that like it was yesterday, him pounding the steering wheel when my win light came on lol.

My opponent will often red light because of the long wait at the tree, or I will dump him at the stripe and he'll break out flying past me at 130+ mph.

Auto Trans 21.90 to 22.10 at 61 mph.. Used to love bracket racing it Especially when you would race an 11 second car that would blow by you at 120 mph across the finish line!

This class was laddered from round 1, slowest v.s. fastest. I remember seeing an old VW bug with a ~ 24 second dial up against a mustard yellow 50's Ford that dialed ~8.5...at the stripe the bug was going a little over 50 mph and the ford was over 160! Spooky!...thought the bug was going to end up on his window. 67 Barracuda street car, 408, e85, 1.38 60', 6.44 @105.9 in the 1/8 mile, 10.19 @130.5 in the 1/4...so far....

I was shocked when it ran 15.69, not only that but it ran it almost every run. Ended up finishing runner up in trophy class ran a 15.71 on a 15.70 dial. Other guy just cut a great light. Air-pump removed, underdrive pulleys, chipped, bbk tb, equal length shorty headers, 2.25" dual exhaust, 3.55's, ran a whopping 18.32 @ 82 mph at 6000' DA...sad part I wasn't the slowest truck there lol...

It had a boxed T Model frame, center steer, narrowed 57 GM rear. For power, I borrowed my cousin's Ford Flathead, 2X2s, Offy heads, 276", Isky cam, etc. Slicks were 6" recaps(very common in the early 60s). No trailer, a tow bar was the method of transport---pulled by a 54 Ford sedan(6 cylinder of course). Safety equipment included WWII surplus belts, P-51 fighter seat, a butterfly steering wheel and an open face Bell helment. It ran a stout 88MPH in 1/4---don't remember the ET---probably in the 16 or 17s. About five of us guys put this thing together---and groups like this don't last long, and this one didn't either. We split up after about a month---went our separate ways. The next year, I and a friend bought a 96" rail complete with trailer for $450. Got the flathead again and off to the races we went----ran that thing with the flathead and various GM SBs for several years.

I race Street Eliminator with my Dart ( 11.50-19.99) running 11.50s I`m leaving second most of the time. We have a weekly racer in a Caprice wagon that runs 18.0s he does pretty good its fun running him down at 115 mph but the wait to leave seems forever. We launched, and he immediately pulled ahead. His bike started wobbling, then spit him off. He slid directly in front of my car! Thankfully I got the car stopped pretty quickly, even with the skinny fronts and aired down slicks. The car kind of hopped to a stop and I came within three feet of the guy. Once they got him cleared out of there I continued down the track real mellow. I think my damn leg was shaking... They actually had an ET slip for me. 1 minute 17 seconds. dodgeboy11 super stock Joined: Feb 2007 Posts: 1,025 Las Vegas, NV	My '77 dodge w100. It's a 4 speed 360 and it had a 2" lift with 31" tires and 3.55 gears. Funny thing is, it'd 60' fairly decently for what it was (can't remember the numbers, just remember being surprised) but trying to push a house through the air doesn't do much for the top end. 16.6 thru the mufflers and 16.4 open headers. It was always a crap shoot deciding to leave it in 3rd till the end or shift into 4th. Never seemed to make a difference timewise. 81 mph was about as fast as it'd trap. Wish I'd had time to take it to the track after I put the 408 in it. Where it used to run 80 mph it would go 94 at our hometown "track". Interesting how the distance between the 55 mph sign and the 70mph sign is almost exactly a 1/4 mile...

We ran our 1982 Jeep J-10 truck with the 258 straight six. When we ran on Friday's with little track prep we dialed 13.50, but when they ran us on Saturday's during a regular race with a lot of VHT we usually had to dial around 14.20. He won five races with that truck that year and it was a blast getting to ride with him down the track. Oh and MPH was usually around 52. Brad

The fastest car was the 74 Dodge Charger. With a 496 it ran 10.80 in full street trim.

Slowride happens to be my dads name for 3 of his rides in footbrake. I just sold slowride #4 .74 nova it was the slowest of all 4 rides. 12:80 / 8.00. I know..... not that slow but here's where it gets good and slow. I'm from TEXAS and race at Houston raceway park and Lonestar racway park in sealy tx.. Lonestars a 1/8 mile IHRA track. Back in 2000 I was bored so took the 30 min drive to lonestar for a $1000 footbrake race. Driving my high powered 79 corolla 2 door hachback powered by a 4 cyl running on 3 cly . Plug wire was even missing. Lol. I got there late so I got 2 tech cards for practice. Lost first round to a good friend John Cox on both cards. Car blistard the timers with a 13.45 @ 42mph with 3.11 60ft (.021 rt.) I had a 13.00 on window. So second card I put a 13.50 on window and it ran 13.70. Not good. So I bought back an both cards and put a 14.50 on window and started going some rounds. I think fourth round I had bye but even amount of cars . The other car dials a 6.78 and runs dead on . I went .006 and 12 off to take win at 25mph. !!! Next round I get my dad and he knows I'm bagging but I know that he knows .lol So he spots me and plans on braking me out! He stomped brake same time as I did and I ran 1 off to his 1 under for a win at 36mph. I ended up getting down to 5 cars 2 were me!! Lost both in 1/4 ers . I ran it at baytown in import class ran 23.65......so I dialed 24.70. Won 2 weeks in row .

plasticfantastic top fuel Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 2,110 toledo, ohio	a 1966 Barracuda, 273 2bbl automatic. thing would launch incredible, then just lay over... 24.xx in the quarter. the timing system would nearly reset itself waiting for me to finish a run. this car was a certified POS, no tail lights, so I'd have to ride the brake when driving at night, no heater, so i'd have to scrape the inside of the windows as i'd drive in the winter, tore the exhaust off getting stuck on a tree stump behind the tower at Milan Dragway, Flex piped a new exhaust on it. perfect first car for a 16 year old.

I remember thinking (17 or so at the time) that this bracket racing thing is cake. LOL. Best ET was 18.12. From what I remember in all of the passes I made in that car, the ET range was from 18.12-18.27ish. It was dead nuts consistent. Wish I was half as consistent. 72 RR, Pump gas 440, 452s, 3800 lbs, Corked, ET Radials,. 11.33@117.72. Same car, bone stock 346s, 9.5 comp, baby solid. 12.24@110.

JCCuda mopar Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 447 NJ	Back in the 90's i owned a Napa store and I would race the Aspen and Volare delivery wagons from time to time if the racecar was not running. The fast one would go 20's and the slow one would go in the 21's. I also used to loan them out to friends who needed something to race. poboyengineering mopar Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 685 pennsylvania	man, i thought i would have this nailed, but after reading some of the other responses, well...i took my wifes eagle station wagon out one day, dialed a 19.75 and got to the finals where i got happy feet and redlighted. that dial almost seems too fast for this topic! It may be ugly, but it sure is slow. Girls comb their hair in rear view mirrors and the boys try to look so hard....

Leon441 master Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 4,330 Lynchburg, VA	1965 Dart GT with the 273 HP and automatic tranny. I think it ran a 12 in the 1/8 mile. I had a 1984 Turismo 2.2 that was a blast to drive that ran 10.8 in the 1/8. It was horrible in the 60 ft. Course it was not stock at all. Leon Career best 8.02 @ 169 at 3050# and 10" tires small block power.
