The factory Ram sleeve is a little short.The Dak steering arm is shorter than the Ram arm.Also the van outer tie rods are shorter than the Ram.In the pics the inner and outer rods are only threaded 3/4"-1" into the sleeve.If I can locate a sleeve about 2" longer Ill be home free.I havent had a chance to research it yet.Unfortunately working on my truck wont pay the bills.  Ill get back on it this weekend

How far off is the ram tierod to the van/dakota as far as the joint shape/angle is concerned?
Could the stock ram one be used on the dakota dropped spindles without to much of a problem?

In this pic the stock Ram tie rod is on top, van on bottom.The dust boot doesnt come off the van tie rod,hence the c-clamp.The Dak/Van stud is larger by quite a bit.The The Dak/Van stud dimensions are- .621 at the small diameter and .703 at the large diameter.I dont have the deminsions for the Ram tie rods,but you can see the difference.

ramblebee, good work, turck looks great!!! thanks for R & D ing the tie rod ends. you saved me some head scratching later this year. i have made tie rod sleeves out of mild steel tubing. i bought stuff from the race shop that Jamie Mcmurray used to work at in Joplin MO. it was seamless and i had them tap both ends, one left and one right-handed threads. done this a few times on street rods. you have to run a jamb nut on the tie rod to snug them after adjusting them. I would investigate c-body sleeves. they use 11/16 threads which is what trucks have if i remember correctly. you can buy them new. a few suspension suppliers have them in aluminum too for around 50$ keep up the good work! JP in KS.

So the c-body sleeves are the same id. and thread as the Ram? Man Im hoping the c-body sleeves work out. From looking at the pics they are long enough.That will definately be the easiest and cheapest way to go. I looked into the van sleeves they are 14 3/4" long  . Im going to the parts store after work tomarrow.

Have you looked into 80s Truck tie-rods and sleeves? IIRC they changed in about '79 or '80. They are quite a bit longer than the 70s sleeves, not short like the ones you have now. I discovered this difference when I was tie-rod swapping on an '81 I used to have.
Have you got a referance for a stock-height truck yet? If not my '88 shorty is sitting stock right now. It has a Wee six though but it shouldnt make that much difference, though it may sit a bit higher. My tires in the pic are 235/70/16s, 29 inches tall.

Ok, on my '85, the tie rod sleeves are 9 5/8" long. I dont know what the thread size is, maybe someone else can chime in---maybe its possible if i do this swap i wont need tierod sleeves like on your '73.

Yes they are bigger.I Cant recall offhand what diameter the Dak rotors are but its 10" and something.And If I remember correctly the Ram rotors are 11.75".Not positive on those #s, but I do know the Dak rotors are smaller.As far as Dak vs. Ram caliper size Im not sure.I do Know that the Ram caliper bracket will bolt directly onto the 91-96 Dak spindle.

Ok I was off on the Dak rotor diameter.It is 11.315" for all 2wd 88-96. However the 91-96 Dak rotors are 6 lug. 88-90 are 5 lug.But as far as I can tell (and I might be wrong) all front disc equipped Rams 72-93 are 11.75.So the difference in rotor size is less than a half inch.

There could very well be some differences in tie rod ends from 72-93.Its just a matter of finding the adjusting sleeve that works.

85 Ram 4 Speed post got me to wondering.So I did a little research.It looks like there was a tie rod change,both inner and outer in 79.According to my parts book( which I just noticed only goes up to 90) 72-78 inner and outer tie rods are 7.44" long.In 79 both inner and outer tie rods went to 5.16" long.Also the stud got larger in 79.But this shouldnt dicourage anyone,its just a matter of finding the correct tie rod and sleeve combo.This book is a awesome tool. If anyone needs help finding the right parts let me know.Or just go look it up at your local parts store.
